Death wasn't new, you've faced death countless times but this time it was slower and painful. A death like this, even the worse of your enemies did not deserve a slow death as this one. Not that you died, but you almost did. This was caused by your very own actions, there was no denying that. However, you were not expecting King Mateus to torture you this way. So it was natural to hate the man.
You had no choice. Your actions took you where you were now, there was no way for you to escape. King Mateus had shown several times that he was way far from being kind and forgiving. If you escaped he would send someone to hunt you down, or he would use your family.
So, this was it. This was your fate, this was your either new home or your new hell. But as you moved,or attempted to move your body, it was probably going to be your new hell. Moving wasn't as painful but a wave of fatigue washed all over your body. It didn't matter how much you have slept, maybe days now and even so, your body screamed for you to go back to sleep.
Letting out a breath, you opened your eyes and stared at the ceiling. This...This was the first time you've woken up since you lost consciousnes. And as you looked around, you would have expected to find yourself back in the dungeons...Then again, you should have realized that you weren't there when you felt the softness of the bed instead of the wet, hard and coldness of the ground of your cell.
What did he obtain by placing you in one of the guests' rooms? After all he put you through? Did he really expect you to accept this act as an act of kindness and offer your loyalty? Scoffing, you trying to sit up. You managed to do it but a wave of dizziness almost made you lay down again.
"How are you feeling?" The voice made you open your eyes in panic, despite the dizziness, you looked around. Though you didn't have to look around much since the owner of the voice was seating on a chair across the room, against the wall as if they have been waiting there for quite a while.
It took you a moment for you to recognize your previous King. "King Rufus..." Despite your weakened body, you tried to get off the bed and offer the man a proper greeting. It was the last thing you could do after all the problems you could have caused him with your actions.
"It's not necessary, rest." He straightened up in his seat, narrowing his eyes as if trying to study you more.
The shame you felt was so great that you couldn't look at him so you looked away. "I could say that I am sorry but it... It's not going to solve what has been damaged already."
This time he let out a long sigh. "I should have known he was going to plan something like this, I am also responsible for your actions. Your actions reflect on me, it was my duty to teach you how to properly react if something like this happened. But it's quite too late for that."
Planned. King Mateus planned it all for... Whatever reasons he had. Scowling, you shook your head. "No, it was common sense. I should have known but I let my anger blind me. What does he plan to do with me?"
This time you looked at him, and you were glad you did. If you hadn't, you would have missed the hate behind his eyes. "I won't go into detail, but there was a mutual agreement that no live First Class Soldier would be kept under their possession. Unfortunately he doesn't not respect such agreement and I don't know he plans to do with you."
You would have been killed, that was the abjective of that agreement. Actually, you would have preferred death over the torture you were put in and the humiliation.
He finally stood up but remained on that spot, "with the war now and even after it, I'm afraid there isn't anything I can do and neither for you. Ate least until we recover from the aftermath of the war. I do intend on taking action, keeping you in his possession is an offence to my Kingdom and to me." Sending you a last glance he reached for the door handle, twisted it opened the door and walked out.
You weren't sure what he had planned but you doubted he had any plans for you. For a King, you seemed to be a lot more trouble than you were worth. At least, most royalty thought similar.
Even if you were tired you pulled the covers of the bed and threw them to the side. You tried to do the same thing with your legs, but as soon as you moved one of your legs, an intense pain shoot up your leg. It should have been obvious, but now that you studied the bandages and a section of your leg looking purple, it was proof that you had a broken leg.
Before you drowned yourself in self pity, the door was opened so abruptly that it was surprising still in place. In walked King Mateus, his eyes looked around the room before he looked at you. He looked intrigued despite this room being in his castle. "He took you here." And that revealed why he looked around the room and looked so interested. "No matter," with a single wave of his hand he summoned someone. A soldier entered the room, he looked serious and slightly scared.
Without a word he placed a hand over your shoulder blades and the other under your knees. You tried to get rid of his hold but stopped when the King talked. "She's still fragile, grab her carefully."
You stopped not because of the King, but because of how the soldier hesitated and there was a sudden tremble to his form. The man pulled you to his arms gently and waited for further orders. "If King Rufus had not so rudely interrupted your daily dose of sunshine, we wouldn't be doing this." Again he motioned for the guard to move.
The three of you headed to an unknown destination, though once roses and plants met your view, you were surprised that you were being taken to the garden. What was more surprising was that he had a garden to begin with. It wasn't that, this garden was grand. Your eyesight couldn't take the end of the garden. At the other end you noticed some forms, but the figures were way to far for you to recognize.
The guard sat you down on a bench, King Mateus took a few minutes to stare at those figures before he took the seat at your side. "King Rufus failed to train your properly, now that you belong to me you will learn how to behave." From the corner of your eye, he relaxed just a bit.
Belong and behave, he as if he was talking about a dog instead of you. Like a dog needing to be trained. If he noticed how you glared at the ground which would have been on him, he didn't show it. "I may belong to you, however I cannot say the same for my loyalty."
"Loyalty?" Just then several maid began to approach with a small table, drinks and snacks. They placed the table in front of the King and offered said food and drink to him, he grabbed a glass of maybe wine, while he directed the food to you. But after being deprived from food for so long, it you couldn't just digest solid food right away. He probably already knew that, and it was his way of another torture. Before he continued, the forms of people you saw a couple of minutes ago began to came closer and closer.
Once close enough, you recognized Zack, Cloud, and Ravus. Had it not been for Ravus, Zack and maybe even Cloud would have charged forward and captured you on an embrace.
Zack didn't care that the glare he was sending to was to a King, he glared daggers at the man. But King Mateus only raised and eyebrow and drank his wine. Cloud did the same as Zack but tried to restrain himself.
Ravus didn't glare at King Mateus but looked at you instead, hi gaze traveled from your face down to your broken leg. Slowly a frown showed on his face.
"Is something on your mind?" King Mateus questioned the other King, obviously enjoying the struggle the three males had.
"May we speak with her? In private?" Finally Cloud took the courage to ask, slowly King Mateus began to smile.
The King looked back to his drink, took another sip from it then places it on the table. He continued to stand up, then motion to the guard. "I'm afraid that's not possible," the guard followed his orders and began to carry you. "As you can see, she is fragile and she needs all the rest she can get. "
It didn't matter how much all of this made your blood boil, there wasn't much to do other than try to smile to your friends. "I'll be fine."
Your smile didn't calm them down, but it was the best thing to do now. What else? You... Belonged to the King Mateus, that was your true reality.
However, King Mateus didn't do things just because...Or maybe he did enjoy seeing others suffering. Who knows? Only him.
