You were supposed to be asleep, but there was no other way to talk to you. It didn't matter if they had left Kingdom Oblivion, they would still be linked to it.
So this was the only way for him to contact you, to talk to you about the danger you were in. He appeared inside your room, his feet touched the floor. Boom, his heart thrashed inside his chest. Then, a wave of emotions knocking him to his feet. Fear, fear was the strongest emotion right now. Fear of getting caught, fear that you wouldn't believe him.
Trembling, his hand trailed to his chest and sure enough, there was a heartbeat. A heartbeat that shouldn't be there because his heart had been stolen from him.
His feet trembled, sweat trailed down his temples, and he began to breathe hard. But even so, he stood up and began to walk closer to your bed. You were sleeping, you looked so at peace so... Calm. His hand began to travel to your shoulder, but when his fingers touched your shoulder, you moved so fast and had him laying on the bed and you were on top of him. A small blade was placed on his neck.
Your eyes glared at him, but having close to you, and your abilities were sharper than others, you recognized him. "Roxas?" Pulling the knife away, you leaned back, making you seat on his torso, way too close to a certain a sensitive body part. "What are you doing here?"
Normally he wouldn't feel nervous, because although he has the memory of what it feels to be nervous, it doesn't compare to the real thing. His heart began to beast so fast that he could almost hear the heartbeat behind his ears. "Could..." He cleared his throat, "Can you please let me stand?"
"Yeah, sorry." He had to stand still as you got off of him, and finally he could breathe more calmly. But his emotions were still very strong, it was a feeling he missed so much.
Making sure to provide some sort of light, you moved around the room until light flooded it. He watched as you then returned to stand in front of him. He noticed how your hair looked longer, a bit displaced from your sleep, you were wearing men's night clothing.
It showed him a bit more of you, a piece of vulnerability. But, that was not what filled him with fear and hope. Xemnas said that for them to obtain their hearts they would have to kill someone, someone who was not supposed to even exist. Be never really understood that, he didn't understand that.
But having you here, and his chest filled with so many emotions, he knew that the person they were looking for was right here standing in front of him. One thing, all he had to do was to tell Xemnas that you were the person they were looking for, and they could return to be normal. It had never been easy to kill someone, without a heart mainly because he knew it at least, he always had the lingering of his emotions. He promised that he would try to protect you, and it didn't matter how much he wanted his heart back he couldn't and would not allow himself to kill you.
Even if you were key to return their hearts, it wasn't your fault. So why would you have to pay with your life? A life you so desperately tried to change and for the better?
Exhaling, he smiled, it wasn't just for show, he felt it, it reached his lips on its own. "It doesn't matter how I got here but listen," his eyes caught the way the light made the blade of the knife shine, you were more than capable of protecting yourself. "I shouldn't be here but there must be something you should know," he looked at the bed and motioned for you to take a seat, but you shook your head. "King Xemnas wants you dead, don't ask me why or how I know, but he does. So please be careful, they'll do all they can to make it happen."
It was a quick explanation, and enough to warn you. But even if he was here to warn you, he had to stay close and help protect you. Specially now that he knew the truth, specially since the others would find out about your purpose if they came close to you. He couldn't allow it, besides, what if Xemnas had another purpose? That man was filled with greed of power, so maybe he was hiding something else.
He walked towards the door, but he didn't reach for the handle, instead he turned around to look at you and he looked guilty. "I'm sorry," you didn't understand why he was apologizing, until that portal appeared and before you asked him anything, he was gone.
Roxas wasn't just anybody, he was like that link haired male, he was from Kingdom Oblivion. In frustration, you rubbed your face as you went back to your bed and sat down. In the eyes of everyone else he was the enemy, but if he wanted to kill you or even attack the Kingdom, he could have done so.
Instead, he came here risking his own life just to warn you. It was your obligation to share that information with the others, but how could you give him up after he warned you. Maybe if he showed up, or in the upcoming days you could discover his real intentions.
---
They were waiting for him, Axel and Xion had been waiting in the forest for Roxas to return. Roxas didn't want them to show up because you'll be a lot more suspicious and you would take their appearance as an attack.
It took the male maybe ten minutes to return, and when he did, Axel had to reach forward before Roxas landed on the ground. Axel helped Roxas up only for his eyes to widen when he felt it, he felt the heart beat within Roxas' chest.
He let go and walked back in shock, Roxas landed on his knees and hands until he composed himself, he stood up. "H-how is that possible?" Axel questioned, Xion watched puzzled as to what he was talking about.
Roxas raised his hand to his chest, but there was nothing there. It was gone, his heart wasn't there to begin with. With the lack of response from his friend, Axel placed the palm of his hand on Roxas' chest only to crown when there was nothing. He shook his head furiously, "I know I felt it, what happened?" Realization showed on his eyes as he stared at Roxas. "She's the key to get our hearts back, isn't?"
Xion glanced from one another, and she wasn't sure what to think of it. "Roxas?"
Said male ran his fingers through his hair, closing his eyes as it calmed him down. "Axel is right," finally he admitted, " but I'm not going to tell Xemnas about it. I promised I would protect her, and that's what I am going to do." With the other two together, his existence was tolerable, his emotions, his feelings or at least, how he remembered them, were stronger. But it was definitely not as strong to the emotions he has just moments ago. "I am not going to stop you, if you want to go back to him then you're free to do so, but I am not going back. Besides, he really did't know his real intentions, specially since he met that witch."
"Don't be stupid," Axel crossed his arms across his chest as his eyes glanced at the castle where you were staying. His arms falling to his sides, but his hand touched his chest, wondering how it would feel to have his heart back after years without it. "I'm not going back, so I'll help you protect her if that's what you want."
The girl named Xion smiled, and she nodded too. "Me too, let's protect her together." Besides, just like Roxas said, it was not fair for you to die for something that you had no fault on.
Roxas smiled at the two of them, protect you. The thought of the others finding about who you were in reality, he wasn't sure how he would be able to help you. They could fight, but they didn't have Hart's not immortal.
Hopefully they never found out, and you would be out of their clutches. Little did they know that an hour observed them, listening to their conversation.
The one responsible for the small spy smiled, so they had found you? As much as she wanted to take possession of what was hers, it was not time. So for now she had to make sure that the others didn't find you just yet, or better yet, that they never found you.
