It started out with just watching a movie.

We had decided to watch Coco for what I swear is the twentieth time, but James loves it so I let him enjoy himself.

It wasn't until we got about halfway through the film that I got really bored.

So bored in fact that I decided to plop my head right in James' lap, and he started playing with my hair, still entranced with the movie we've seen a million times over.

But I wanted his full attention.

Then came the puppy eyes. Those always work on him.

But he was so focused on the screen, that he didn't even notice me doing my best impression of a sad puppy.

So I decided to try and get his attention with affection.

I kissed his cheek all over, from his ear to his nose, but still he was so fixated on the movie that he hardly acknowledged me.

I even went as far as pulling him onto my lap and lightly kissing the back of his neck, but nothing was working.

So I did what I had to do.

I decked him in the face with a pillow.

That got his attention.

He paused the movie, and looked over at me with a bewildered look on his face, and asked,

"What was that for?"

"Pay attention to me" I respond.

"What?"

"Pay attention to me." I say again, more fervently this time. "I'm so bored and all you want to do is watch this movie but we've seen this a million times and I just want to do something with you so please pay attention to me."

There's a silence for about 10 seconds before James speaks again.

"You've heard of the golden rule right?" He asks.

"Yea, it's the whole 'treat others how you want to be tre-"

I break off as a pillow hits me square in the face, causing my cheek to hurt slightly.

Determination fills my body.

"Oh it's on." I say, grabbing two more throw pillows from the couch, and throw them in James' direction, then cover my face as they come flying back at me a second later.

Grabbing the pillow again, I aim for the back of  his knees, sending him falling onto the couch face first.

He quickly recovers, and grabs a pillow to start hitting my torso with.

This continues on for a good 20 minutes, until I decide I'm too tired to continue, and surrender by flopping onto the couch in defeat.

James too sat down on the couch and started running his hands through my hair again.

"I love you." I mumbled, my face shoved into a pillow.

"What was that?"

"I said I love you." I repeat, lifting my head to meet his adoring gaze.

He lightly pecks me on the lips before saying,

"I love you too."
