James' pov
I love animals. So much. Honestly, if I had to choose between animals or humans, I would probably choose animals.
So when Adam invited me to the zoo, of course I said yes.
I was practically bouncing out of my seat in the car as Adam drove us closer and closer to the animals.
Adam was almost left behind as I raced to the entrance, and he had to almost sprint to catch up to me.
Once the tickets were payed for, and the wristbands stuck to our wrists, I immediately grabbed Adam's hand and ran straight to the black bear exhibit.
An adorable new baby bear was rolling around in the grass and chewing on low hanging tree leaves.
The adoration I felt towards that bear must have been very prominent on my face, and I heard Adam chuckling lightly at my actions.
My hand was still clutching his, but he made no move to let go, so neither did I.
After a few more minutes of staring, we moved on to the reptile building.
There were different kinds of frogs, snakes, turtles, newts, and salamanders.
All of them were so tiny and adorable, that I contemplated going to the pet store to get myself an amphibian friend. I ultimately decided against it though. 3 pets were enough.
I pointed out different facts and things that I noticed about the creatures to Adam, and he listened intently as I rambled on, which I appreciated.
The monkey enclosure was up next, and the events were very similar to the reptile exhibit.
I spouted off facts I read from the signs, and Adam followed along with a fond smile on his face.
After the bird exhibit, we headed off to a restaurant in the zoo, and a gift shop attached to it.
I ate rather quickly, excited to get back to all the animals we had yet to see.
Adam insisted that we go to the gift shop first, and I begrudgingly agreed, still antsy to get back to the zoo.
I followed as Adam strolled around the store, him clutching my hand in case I decided to make a run for it back to the zoo.
Only when Adam checked out at the counter did I realize what he was buying.
The small stuffed bear was handed back to Adam with his receipt, and he quickly turned to me and placed the bear into my arms.
"There. Now you can bring a little part of the zoo home with you." He said, giving me a large grin.
My surprise quickly turned to embarrassment, and I hid my face in the bear in front of me to hide my rosy cheeks.
I grabbed Adam's hand once again, and quietly mumbled,
"Thank you"
"Of course." He replied, a large grin still plastered on his face as he lead me out of the shop.
Composing myself quickly, I led us both to the underwater part of the zoo, excited to see the sea creatures.
I stared in awe at the manta rays, and raced from tank to tank, trying to spot every kind of fish I recognized, while dragging Adam close behind me.
We reached the end of the exhibit and the end of the zoo rather quickly, and headed out of the exit, the stuffed bear still clutched in my arms.
As we walked back to the car, Adam asked me questions about what my favorite animal was, what my favorite habitat we looked at was, and other questions similar to those.
I excitedly answered all of them, making sure to ask Adam some as well, and got so caught up in the conversation that I didn't realize we had already reached my house.
"Well. Here we are." Adam said, making no move to leave the car.
"You could come in, if you want to." I replied, hoping he took the offer.
He smiled and agreed, unlatching his seatbelt, and walking over to open my car door for me.
We walked into my house, ordered food from a local Chinese restaurant, and settled in for a night of nature based shows, and cute cartoons we saw on Netflix.
At some point I ended up with my head in Adam's lap, my bear wrapped in my arms securely.
His fingers gently ran through my hair, when I realized just how much I wanted to kiss him.
So that's what I did.
He seemed unsurprised, but leaned into the kiss anyway, his hand still tangled in my hair.
The movie was soon forgotten, and all I seemed to be able to focus on was Adam.
The way he kissed so sweetly, the way he pulled me closer to him, the way that he seemed to be the only thing that mattered in that moment.
Needless to say, he stayed the night.
