Adam's pov
It was a normal day. The sun was high in the California sky, no clouds in sight.
It was way too hot to even consider going outside, and an Air Conditioned house was much preferable to the heatwave out the window.
Unfortunately, my AC was broken, and the repairman said it would take at least three hours for them to be done.
I was practically baking in my small apartment, knowing I should go out, but not having enough energy to talk to people outside.
My only other option was to ask someone else if I could hang out at their place for a couple hours.
Tim was out of town, Illy was sick with the flu and could barely move, which left my only other option as James.
I texted him the details of my situation, and he said he had no other plans than answering a few emails and checking his work on his video.
So I hopped in my car, careful to avoid the hot metal of the seatbelt when pushing it into its lock, and started off to James' house.
Hardly anyone was on the road, with it being 11 am and 110°(F) outside.
My car AC blasted along with the radio, some sort of rap music playing through the speakers.
A few minutes passed before I pulled into James' driveway, the heat in my car still very present even with the cool air blasting.
I texted a quick "here" before exiting my car and locking it, and walked up to the front door.
The door swung open before I had a chance to knock, and a tired but smiling James stood on the other end, greeting me in.
I was quickly ushered into the cool house and out of the heat of the blazing sun, and sat down on the couch in the living room.
James said to make myself comfortable as he finished up a few work things, so I started up a game of Mario Kart on his switch and played a few races.
20 minutes passed with the noises of the video game filling the silence, and Floof had found her way into my lap to sleep by the time James was done.
I was about halfway through another race when James joined me on the couch with another controller, waiting for the round to be done to join me.
Despite the heat outside, James' house was actually quite chilly, and he was wrapped in a thin blanket from head to toe, with only his face and hands poking out.
He looked adorable, to say the least. His visible hair was messy from being moved around under a blanket, and his eyes looked ever so droopy from lack of sleep.
A small tickle formed at the back of my throat, which didn't go away even when I cleared my throat, so I let out a few coughs to hopefully get rid of it.
It worked for the most part, but I still felt a small tickle that didn't seem to want to leave.
Deciding to ignore it, I went back to playing Mario Kart, hoping I wasn't catching whatever Illy had.
James had somehow moved closer during the race, our bodies practically touching from hip to shoulder, when he leaned his head against me.
Immediately my throat burst into uncomfort, and I had to force it down once again to not disturb James.
I tried to ignore the racing of my heart, hoping that James couldn't hear it from how close he was sitting, when I realized something.
My face was warm, and not just from the temperature outside, my hands were clammy, and my heart felt like it was going to explode, all just because James had leaned on me.
