James' pov
Traditions are important to me. I've always tried to follow as many traditions as possible, including making gingerbread houses.
And when I say "making gingerbread houses," I mean making them from scratch.
I had spent all morning finding the perfect recipe for our houses, then spent the afternoon making and cutting the dough into the correct shapes.
Adam joined me when the cookies were in the oven, telling me how amazing it smelled, and how excited he was to make the houses.
I smiled and laughed along with him, both of us exchanging a kiss here and there, and nearly missed the timer for the cookies to come out.
While they were cooling, I whipped up a bit of frosting, separated it into different bowls, and dyed it to the colors I wanted.
Adam attempted to help, but just ended up getting blue dye all over his hands, and my face.
So I threw some frosting at him when we wasn't looking.
He happened to turn around right when I flung it though, and it landed directly on his top lip.
"Oh no," I said, trying to be dramatic, "looks like I'll have to clean that off for you."
Adam smirked and walked closer to me, wrapping his arm around my waist.
"How dreadful" He said, then leaned in to capture my lips in another kiss.
We pulled away slowly, then Adam said,
"Uh oh, I think you missed some."
"Oh did I?" I asked, before kissing him slowly again, my hand tangled in his messy hair.
He pulled me closer to him, both arms now wrapped around me, when I remembered the gingerbread houses.
"Adam, we should probably decorate the houses." I said, pulling away from him to check the icing.
A small wine slipped from his lips when I left, but he still attempted to help me stir the different colored frostings, before heading to the table to set everything up.
Once all the cookies and decorations were set up on the table, I took off my apron, and sat down to start decorating.
Adam soon joined me, and immediately grabbed the red buttercream icing, and started connecting the different part of the house.
"Um, Adam," I said hesitantly, "do you want the royal icing? It's made to keep it together better."
"My life's falling apart, so why wouldn't my house be?" He answered, trying, and failing to make his house stand up.
"Fair point. Proceed."
My frosting dried quickly, so I started on my decorations.
I used the royal icing to create icicles dripping down from the house, then carefully drew a window on three sides of the house, and a door on the fourth.
Adam seemed to have given up on the structure of the house, and decided to go wild with the decorations.
Mini M&Ms were dumped randomly across the whole thing, with red, blue, and green frosting covering the ruins of the house.
He delicately stuck two mini marshmallows together, then put an orange candy on the front of the top marshmallow, to make what appeared to be a snowman.
He then placed the snowman on top of the mess, and leaned back in this chair.
"There. All done." He said, satisfaction lacing his voice.
"... what is it suppose to be exactly?" I asked, looking over at the "house" a bit concerned.
"It's a guy that destroyed everything and now rules the village." Adam said triumphantly.
"Alrighty." I said, putting the last finishing touches on my house.
My house was covered with white snow on the roof, and Nerds placed on top to represent lights.
There was a light blue walkway leading up to the house, tiny snowflakes placed in a pattern on the sides of the path.
Adam looked at the designs on my house, his eyes widening more the longer he looked.
"Woah," he said. "That looks amazing."
"Thanks." I said, a blush across my cheeks.
I stood up, and walked over to the sink, turning on the water, and running my hands under the water to get the dry frosting off.
Adam soon joined me, then took the towel from me when I was done using it.
After cleaning up the mess on the table, I lined up the two houses, and took a photo.
"Ya know," I said. "I kinda like yours. Kinda makes me want to rebel or something."
"I like yours. It's structured and gorgeous. Like you." Adam said, placing his arm around me once more.
I was about to respond, when a glimpse of a blue frosting pattern on Adam's design caught my eye.
"Adam, did you draw a menorah on your gingerbread house?"
"Indeed I did. Gotta have that representation for the Jewish viewers at home."
"Adam, there's literally no one else here but us." I said, slightly amused at the antics.
"That's what you think." He said, winking, and going to the living room.
I glanced cautiously around the room quickly, then raced towards the living room and saying,
"That's not funny Adam!"
He chuckled as I joined him on the couch, then turned on the Grinch, as I cuddled closer to him.
He kissed me lightly on the forehead, before turning back to the movie.
"Y'know, I never got why they were so scared of him. He's just a little grumpy. I mean sure, he eats a little bit of glass, but like, haven't we all at some point?" Adam said, gesturing to the TV.
"I mean, The Who's shouldn't be scared of him because of his appearance or anything. Have you seen their noses? Terrifying. Reminds me of the Dark Crystal characters." I said, slowly getting drowsier with each word.
"That's a good point." Adam said, he sounded as if he was going to continue, but stopped when he realized how close I was to sleep.
I vaguely felt another kiss on my forehead, before dozing off with the sound of Cindy Lou Who ringing in my ears.
