James' pov

It was so hot.

There was nowhere to go to escape all the warm, dancing bodies, except the bathroom.

But once you've been in the bathroom for more than 10 minutes, people start to get agitated.

Jaiden had convinced me to wear a tie tonight, telling me I looked "fashionable". I thought I looked like a nerdy teenage boy at a dance. I kinda felt like that too.

The tie felt tight around my neck, and made it even harder to breathe in the huge crowd of Youtubers.

So many big and familiar faces were throughout the crowd that it practically felt like a smaller version of Vidcon.

The animation crew was packed into a corner of the room, chatting amongst themselves, with big bursts of laughter popping up here and there.

I had joined the group a while ago, enjoying the excitement and energy of the group.

I couldn't help but notice that Adam wasn't there yet.

The front door opened multiples times after my arrival, but none of them were him.

Time seemed to tick by slowly, as everyone at the party became less and less sober, and my hopes of Adam showing up began to dwindle.

Finally, I decided to text him, just in case he forgot or something.

He responded relatively quickly, saying he had gotten caught up with working on his video for the next month, and said he would be there shortly.

I released a breath I didn't know I had been holding, and tried to focus back on the topic of the group's discussion.

They seemed to be talking about a recent Tiktok trend going around, one that I had heard of, of course.

The topic didn't really interest me, so I checked my text messages again, making sure that nothing new had come from Adam.

A sudden embrace from behind nearly caused me to drop my phone, but I soon realized who it was behind me.

I turned quickly, and returned the hug, holding on for a bit too long.

Once we pulled away, I saw the large grin taking over his face, and soon felt mine do the same.

Everything suddenly felt easier. The crowd seemed less pressing, the air felt cooler, and the stupid tie around my neck felt a little looser.

It all felt better, now that Adam was here.

The conversation with the group seemed more interesting now, and the smile on my face felt more real and natural.

At one point, Adam dragged me out to join the crowd of sweating, dancing bodies. I didn't mind that much though.

I awkwardly tried swaying my body to the sound, when the music suddenly changed.

A slow song I didn't recognize played over the speakers, which I took as it was time for us to leave the dance floor.

Adam apparently took it a different way, and grabbed my arm to pull me into a slow dance position.

His arms wrapped around my neck, a warm blush spreading over my already hot cheeks.

I instinctively wrapped my arms around his waist, and began swaying with the music.

We laughed and danced, until I felt like my legs would give out at any moment.

Eventually, we decided to take a break. It was getting closer to midnight anyway.

We had about 10 minutes until the ball drop, and we decided to fill the time with filling ourselves with as much punch as possible.

It was a strange mixture of alcohol and soda pop, with an odd red brownish color, but we filled ourselves with it anyway.

I started feeling drowsy after a couple drinks, and by the look of it, so was Adam.

Loud cheers were heard from the large group of people, as the ball drop was about to take place.

We joined the group, cheering along as the TV's view turned to the giant ball in New York.

Between the excitement, and the dizziness in my head, I didn't notice that everyone started pairing off with a different partner, set on getting a New Years kiss.

I only noticed this once we had reached 3 seconds left, and it only triggered in my mind exactly what was happening, when I felt myself being pulled down by my tie.

The crowd cheered as the clock struck 12, and a pair of lips crashed roughly into mine.

My brain panicked for a second, but I soon realized who it was, and quickly kissed back.

Adam was the first one to pull away, one hand still wrapped around my tie, and the other had somehow found it into my hair.

His pupils were dilated, and his lips looked more swollen. I'm sure I wasn't much better.

"Uh, sorry Jameson, I just thought..." Adam said, releasing my tie to embarrassedly scratch the back of his neck.

"No, it's fine." I said, avoiding eye contact. "I actually kinda enjoyed it."

Adam's hand lifted my head, as he placed a short, soft kiss against my lips.

I smiled into the kiss, leaning in slightly.

This is gonna be an amazing new year.

Happy New Year y'all.
