(17) Career Goals?

The following weekend of the trail their grandparents asked for everyone to meet at the Barnes household. Winnie picked both of them up from baseball/softball practice.

Bucky was running to the car fresh out of the shower with fresh hickeys on his neck. "Sorry mom..I was in the shower." He said

"Didn't take long to get over Dallas did it?" Ellie said

He looked over at her. She pointed to his neck he covered them up with his hand. "Elle its my life." He whispered.

"I know. Im just going to mind my own business." She said and looked out the window.

Winnie pulled up in front James Sr and Edith's house that was in Shearview Estates. Not to far behind them Ryan pulled in with James on his tail.

They saw that Sophie and John were already there as well as Ryan's parents and Winnie's parents. They all walked into the house. "Kitchen everybody.' Edith yelled.

They all walked into the kitchen. James Sr seen Bucky's neck.

"Buchanan..you need to stop letting girls do that to your neck." James Sr said

"But I like when they do it to my neck." Bucky said

"Son not now. That is your grandfather. Your mother and grandmothers don't need to hear things like that." James said

Bucky walked out to his dad's car he pulled on his hoodie. He came back in "there everybody happy now. Nobody can see them" he said

"Lets eat." Edith said as she came out of the dining room.

They all took their places at the dining room table. They all ate the tenderloin and vegetables. "Ryan I want to say thank you for saving my grandson's ass last week. I know you already have a lot on your plate with Taylor so thank you. You definitely have your mama's fire in you." Edith said

Anna Katherine smirked "That my son does. I loved seeing you flip that girl." Anna said

"Thank you both." Ryan said

"Im glad we dont ever have to face off. I like the fact that we run our office together." James said

"Got that right." Ryan said

"Well the real reason we called everybody here is because we needed to talk to them two." Edith said as she pointed to Bucky and Ellie who were at the end avoiding each other.

"What about mom?" James said as he wiped his mouth.

"Next weekend we will be going to Atlanta. We need to get them sized up. James needed to be measured for his tux and Elliot needs to get fitted for her ball gown. Winnie Sophie Naomi and Edith and me will be helping her. With Taylor still adjusting to the chemo we as a whole need to assume the role of mother for her." Anna said

"Helping me with what?" Ellie said

"We have to attend alot of things leading up to the ball. You both will learn proper table etiquette. How to shake someone's hand. We still need to put together your dance with James as well as your dad.'" Edith said

"You also need to decide what you want on your introduction card." Anna said

"My introduction card?" Ellie said confused.

Ryan wiped his mouth. "When they introduce you baby." He whispered.

"It will be something like this. Elliot Katherine Cooper daughter of Ryan Kellan Cooper and Taylor Ann Mcgregor-Cooper. Granddaughter to Dr Charles Cooper and Anna Katherine Cooper and Dr Johnathan Mcgregor and Sophie Loren Mcgregor. Her hobbies included Ballet Tennis and Violin. Her career goal after high school..is blank. She is escorted by James Buchanan Barnes son  James Barnes Jr and Winifred Matthews-Barnes,Grandson to Dr James Barnes Sr and Edith Beanica Barnes and Dr William Matthews and Naomi Matthews. Hobbies include Football and Basketball. His career goal is blank." Edith said

Ellie looked down. Bucky looked up at her he could tell something was wrong. After dinner and dessert was over she went to Ryan. "Daddy can we go? I have homework." She said in a low tone.

"Yeah baby.." Ryan said

She went on to the car without saying a word. She hid her tears from Ryan as they went home. She went upstairs she did her homework.

She was laying in her room twirling her hair. Bucky came into her room he kicked off his shoes then laid beside her.

"I have known you for 16 years Elle. And you have a bad habit of shutting down when something is wrong." He said as they laid there.

He looked over at her he rolled to his side. He stopped her from twirling her hair.

"Do you know what you want to do as a career James?" She said

"Well yeah..Im going to be the next Dr James Barnes. Im going into neurosurgery like my grandpa." He said

She looked down then away. "Elle..what is the matter?" He whispered as he made her look at him.

Tears were welling. "All my life I have been told I was a mistake a joke. All I ever wanted was to leave here and never come back. I had a plan for me get accepted into Julliard to finish highschool there. Go to NYU for performance arts and to dance for the NY Ballet Company. To be somewhere that I could be me for once. And all that came to screeching halt last Christmas." She said as she wiped tears.

"Elle..you can still go to NYU. You can just choose a different major." He said

"Thats not the point James.." she said

"I know that Elliot but even if you only get to do half of the life you wanted then that should count for something." Bucky said

She rolled her to side to put her back to him. He laid there till she fell asleep then he went home.
