Months had passed since the accident, and Harry had been cured, his memory instantly returning. Much to Hermione's despise, Harry completely forgot about all the comforting and sweet words he had told her and begun to chase after Cho Chang.

Hermione sighed, glancing up from the book that softly rested in her hands. Her eyes scanned the raven-headed boy who sat in front of her, his attention glued to the popular Ravenclaw girl. Frowning, she picked up her belongings, exiting the Great Hall.

However, Harry noticed, immediately trailing after her. "Hermione!" He called, causing her to turn around.

Jogging, Harry approached Hermione, a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "What's wrong?" He asked, softly chuckling.

"N-Nothing..." Hermione stammered, forcing a hoarse laugh out afterward.

"Come on, Mione! I know you better than you think." Harry exclaimed, wrapping his arm around his best friend's shoulder, pulling her slightly closer. Nevertheless, Hermione was used to these minor actions and knew he didn't think of her as any more than a friend.

"Trust me, I'm fine. I couldn't tell you anyway." She choked out, tensing under his embrace.

Harry led her into an empty classroom, slowly pulling his arm off her back. "W-What?"

Hermione gulped, adverting her eyes from his. She instantly found interest in the elegant designs that were engraved in the stone flooring.

"W-Why wouldn't you tell me, Mione? I'm your best friend, I'll always be here for you." Harry murmured, stuttering slightly. Upon hearing Harry's heartache, Hermione gulped, feeling guilty for hurting him.

"I didn't mean it like that." She started, peering up at him slightly. "I just- uh..."

"What? You just what? Ever since I've gotten better you've been acting odd, and you've never told me why!"

"I don't know how!" Hermione hollered, raising her voice scarcely. "What am I supposed to say?! That I'm deeply in love with you?! When you lost your memory, you thought we were dating! Now I realize how pathetic I was for actually believing that you thought we could be something real..."

With that, Hermione broke down into tears, tucking her knees close to her chest. Her curly hair draped softly over her face, hiding it from Harry's view.

"M-Mione?" Harry muttered, kneeling down in front of Hermione. Gradually, he pulled her into a tight embrace, caressing her back delicately.

"I-I just keep seeing you completely infatuated with Cho, and that breaks my heart." Hermione hiccuped, burying her face in his chest, feeling protected in his arms. "I just want you to look at me the same way you look at her..."

Harry was at loss for words. Did he really like Cho? Sure, she seemed nice...but what about the girl who stuck by him for his whole life?

"I'm so sorry, I didn't know..." He mumbled, placing faint kisses to the top of her head to soothe her.

"I don't blame you! Nobody would choose me..." Hermione hummed, her voice was weak and bitter. Sniffling, she rubbed her eyes, not wanting to pull away from Harry yet.

"Don't say that..." Harry started, frowning. He quietly continued to caress her back, as he pulled her closer to him. "Anyone in their right mind would choose you."

"But you didn't..."

Harry felt his heart break into a million pieces, upon hearing these words. He tightly clenched his eyes shut, preventing the tears from running down his cheeks. Still holding Hermione in his arms, he affectionally nuzzled his head against hers.

"And that's the worst mistake I've ever made..."
