*Camila*

"Camz"

I loved that nickname. It was special- something only Lauren called me. Her and I have been texting non-stop since the day she arrived back home. We would mostly just talk about our days; she tells me about work and the annoying doorman who keeps hitting on her and I tell her about my day at home and complain to her about Rob and Mom's bipolar behaviour.

Ever since we started speaking, I have this sudden motivation to do something with my life. Lauren is very driven and hardworking. She sets goals and works really hard to achieve them. Lauren works at an advertising company, called Janex Ltd. She studied Marketing Management and landed an amazing job in her field. She really enjoys working there.

I, on the other hand, studied Music at the Academy of Art University. The difference though, is that after I had finished studying, I didn't get a chance to pursue my career. Mom and dad got divorced during my final year and Sophie and I were being carted back and forth between Grandma's place and Uncle Jeffrey's (mom's brother). It was a very difficult time for our family and I struggled to stay emotionally strong for Sophie. I'm surprised I even managed to graduate, but by some miracle it actually happened. Since then I've been dealing with a new 'father figure', moms fiancé Rob and dreading the day they finally get married.

Look, Mom's happy. Happier. So I'm not sure why I'm dreading it, but maybe I know that once they're hitched, reality will kick in and I'm not sure I'm ready for that just yet. So I started looking for jobs online, something to keep me busy so that the days don't seem so long and I don't spend hours moping about the current status in the Cabello household.

It's been 6 weeks since Lauren left New York and although we constantly texted and said we missed each other, it started to feel as though the connection we have was slowly drifting away. This made me anxious and unusually upset.

D: "Earth to Milaaa!!?" Dinah flings the TV remote at me from across the room and it knocks me hard on the knee.

C: "Ooouch!! Geez Dinah! What was that for??" I glare up at her.

D: "Excuse me? You invited me over to watch a movie and you're basically more captivated by your phone than by Channing Tatum's sexy brooding eyes! And there's definitely something wrong with that!.. What's up with you Mila?" Dinah pauses the movie and looks at me with concern in her eyes.

C: "Nothing's up. It's just Lauren... It just feels like we're losing our connection. She's acting more distant every day and I have a feeling it's because she's seeing someone else."

D: "Ah, I see. Well, you won't know unless you ask her, babe. She wouldn't lie to you. At least I hope she wouldn't. Look, I know how much you like her Mila, but it's almost 2 months of just texting and not seeing her and that's bound to cause some distant, weird feelings between you guys. The best thing to do is just speak to her about it."

C: "Yeah, I guess you're right. I'll try talk to her about it." I lock my phone and put it down next to me.

D: "I'm always right! I thought we've established this?" Dinah laughs and blocks the pillow that I fling at her as soon as I hear her snarky comment.

We spent the rest of the day watching the rest of The Vow and then we took Sophie to get ice cream before dinner time.
