-Rosè

Just another night of going home alone. Work has finished. Checking up patients since earlier morning, round checking for confined patients. Giving medications, comforting people and trying to make them stay healthy.

My passion, my dream, this is the thing I wanted ever since I was a kid. Be a doctor, save lives and keep the people safe and healthy... but it feels like, I'm not happy anymore.

Personal problems versus professionalism. I still can differentiate the two. I can still do the things I usually do without it being affected but within me, I'm crashed and can't be more affected anymore.

I was about to get my things from my table and leave but was halted when the door opened. A small kid appeared, wearing a hospital gown, but without any dextrose attached to him.

"I'm sorry, but my Mom and Dad went out to get few things for me and I'm afraid to go to the restroom..."
With a tiny timid voice, he stated, indirectly asking me to go with him...

A smile crept on my face upon hearing him and seeing him fidgeting his hands in embarrassment. I dropped my things back to its places and went near him.

"Where's your room?"
I crouched a little and asked, then he pointed at the end of the hallway.

"Okay, I'll go with you and will wait for you to finish using the restroom there."
I held the hand of kid as he guided me to his room, we entered there and he smiled at me before rushing to restroom in his private recovery room.

I looked around, scanning the room, it looks like he just got confined earlier. Not really wanting to invade any kind of privacy, I stayed on one position and did nothing till the boy went out of the restroom with a smile still plastered on his face.

"Thank you for accompanying me, Noona."
A giggle went through out me as he thanked in a cute way.

"But Noona..."
A hum came out of me when he suddenly followed a statement.

"Are you okay, Noona? I saw you earlier... you're..."
His smile faded, and the question was already written on his expression...

"Running away from a man, did he hurt you?"
The moment he asked, that's the only moment I realized that I made a scene in public, in front of many people earlier morning.

My eyes shut close for a little moment...
My lips pressed together as I composed myself in front of the worried kid.

"It's fine. Maybe, I just didn't notice him. I was so busy earlier."
I looked at him and sat on my feet, giving out a smile, I answered.

"But he was crying and yelling sorry while the guards are trying to stop him."
I just let out sigh and fixed the boy's hospital gown, tying the untied ribbon at the side.

"It's okay. You don't have to worry about it. Don't worry about the things happening around you, you're still young and still a kid. Just enjoy life."
He hesitated, but he nodded as a response to my indirect command.

"Now, will it be fine if I'll ask someone to accompany you while waiting for your parents? Noona should be going, Noona is tired."
He nodded and mustered that apologizing expression.

"Go back to your bed, I'll call someone."
I stood up and held his hand, guiding him to his bed before pressing a button to call out a nurse.

And while waiting, I tucked him under the blanket and set the room temperature with a little higher degree as it's getting cold by the night. I sat beside his bed, on the chair and brushed the locks of his hair as he rested his head on the pillow.

"Will you let me know... why you're here?"
I asked with a hoarse voice.

"I don't know, the doctor didn't want me to know, only my parents know about it. Am I going to heal?"
One of the usual questions being asked by patients... he asked it too.

"Of course you will, if you will be an obedient boy."
I answered and he shook his head...

"How can you tell, Noona?"
I chuckled upon the doubtful response.

"No one should do this except your doctor and the nurse assisting her but for you to be sure, I'll look at your records, okay?"
I went near to the desk and picked up the clipboard folder.

I looked through his records...
Aorta dissection.
My head tilted to his direction, he is currently distracting himself, drawing imaginary lines by the air while looking at the glittery ceiling.
Very young but already has such a disease.
I looked back at the papers and found who his doctor is...

That's when I put back his records down to the table, walked and sat next to him and took his attention again.

"You'll be okay."
        I put out a smile.

"You should just be obedient to your doctor and parents, be a good kid, don't do the things that are prohibited. Don't be stressed and just enjoy being a kid, enjoy life, okay? That's all then you'll be okay."
       He just looked at me...

"Also..."
       I caressed his hand...

"I saw who your doctor is..."
For an unknown reason, a smile formed on my lips.

"She's a very good doctor, she will do everything to save you. Just... trust her."
I looked through his eyes and saw nothing but innocence.

"Ma'am, sorry I came late..."
Our heads tilted to the direction where the door is, opened and a person came in.

"It's okay, it's not an emergency. I'm just going to ask for one to attend to him, accompany him while his parents are still not around and if you may, ask his doctor if it's necessary not to give him dextrose? That's all. I'll be leaving. But anyway, please be more attentive next time, we're in the hospital."
       I answered and commanded.

The nurse nodded and bowed her head both for courtesy and apology.

"Hey kid, I'll be going now. Remember what I said and do those things, alright?"
He smiled and gave me thumbs up as I made my way to the ajar door.

I waved at him before totally walking out of the room. The nurse gave out a smile as well as I was about to close the door, but my body froze for a couple of second as I saw a person standing next to the wall.

Slowly...
I closed the door.
Breathed out and turned my body to the direction of the lounge. Not wanting to face the person nor to talk to her but still...

"The kid, he has a disease... I don't know but as a doctor, I'm worried for him and I'm trusting you with him."
I stated and even before she could ever respond, I already had taken steps away from that position.

Trust...
The thing the two of you broke.
