i'm in the kitchen with lucy when zack and ethan finally get home. they left this morning to hit a bank in new york and they're only home now, at 11pm.

"i didn't think you'd still be awake" ethan says as they join me in the kitchen with duffle bags full of cash.

"i didn't think you'd be gone all day" i scoff.

"oh so that's how we're going to be?" ethan smirks, "what time do you call this? why didn't you answer your phone?" he mocks.

"i was worried, asshole" i mutter pushing past him, going back up to my room with lucy.

"you're in trouble bro" zack laughs before i hear ethan following me.

"jade" he sighs, coming up the stairs after me.

"fuck off" i tell him before slamming my door behind me, making lucy cry.

"i'm sorry" he says, slowly opening my door and coming into my room.

"it's okay lucy, mommy just got upset" i whisper trying to comfort her, while ignoring ethan.

"you're tense" ethan states, taking lucy from my arms, "she doesn't like when you're tense" he reminds me as she calms down and stops crying, in his arms.

"she wouldn't settle all day" i yawn.

"i should've been here, i'm sorry" he apologises for a second time.

"no it's not your fault. i'm sorry, i shouldn't have gotten so snappy downstairs. i was just worried about you" i admit.

"you don't have to worry about me" he puts lucy into her crib as she starts to fall asleep.

"but i do" i sigh, "the changrettas-"

"won't hurt us, i promise" he cuts me off.

"they've kidnapped and shot me, what's going to stop them this time?"

"me" he says seriously, "i'll do whatever it takes to keep you and lucy safe"

"i need you safe too" i remind him as we get into bed.

"i'll be fine" he assures me.

"we can't just trust that you'll be fine" i mutter.

"it's been almost two months since they've sent that card and they still haven't made a move" he reminds me before cuddling into me.

i want to tell him he's wrong and we shouldn't trust that we're safe, but all my worries suddenly fade away while i'm in his arms and i find myself falling asleep.

"i don't know what you want baby" jade sighs as i wake up to lucy crying.

"why didn't you wake me up?" i yawn sitting up and taking lucy from her arms.

"why can i never calm her down?" she asks, looking exhausted.

"you always calm her down, she's just had an off night" i assure her.

"you're so much better at this than me" she mutters.

"i'm definitely not" i laugh, "but we'll get there"

"i hope so" she whispers.

"get some sleep, i'm going to take her downstairs" i tell her and kiss her before leaving the room.

"look who's awake!" zack smiles as i come into the kitchen with lucy.

"stop, you're making me blush" i tease as he takes lucy out of my arms.

"i think you just missed me did you?" he says to lucy as she stops crying in his arms, "where's jade?" he asks me.

"in bed. i think lucy kept her awake all night"

"is she okay?" he asks concerned.

"she hasn't been herself, she's exhausted"

"that's no surprise" he states, "when was the last time she left the house?"

"shit, i don't know" i mutter, "she's terrified of those fucking changrettas"

"can you blame her?" he scoffs, "they've kidnapped her and shot her. now she thinks they're after lucy, she won't take her eyes off her"

"i'll try and get her out of the house tonight, even for a hour" i shrug.

"i'll babysit lucy" he offers.

"are you sure?"

"of course" he nods, smiling at lucy.

zack puts lucy to sleep while i clean up around the house, giving jade no excuses to stay home.

after a few hours, she wakes up and comes downstairs to check on lucy.

"you got her to settle" she sighs with relief as she sees lucy is asleep.

"zack did" i tell her.

"he's so good with her, isn't he?" she smiles.

"which is why he offered to babysit tonight"

"why?" she looks at me confused.

"because i'm taking you out"

"oh, maybe another night i don't want to leave lucy alone, she's still so young-"

"just for an hour jade please. zack knows what he's doing and if anything's wrong he'll call us, i promise"

"i don't know" she hesitates.

"you haven't left the house since we got home from the hospital, i'm worried about you"

"there's nothing to worry about" she assures me.

"prove it?" i smirk.

"fine. one hour"
