"bonnie turn the news on!" grayson rushes into the house once we get home.
"be quiet you'll wake the baby" she laughs before seeing how worried he looks, "what's wrong?"
"they shot ethan" he tells her, taking the remote control and switching the news on.
"they what?" she asks, looking at me in horror.
"look here it is" grayson says and her attention goes back to the tv.
they both watch the news, giving it their full attention but i can't.
my legs feel weak and before i know it i collapse to the floor.
"jade look at this" grayson calls me over.
"i don't want to" i pull my knees to my chest.
"he's not dead" bonnie adds.
"one man has been taken into custody after an armed robbery in bank of america this morning in new york" the news anchor reports.
"he's not dead" i sigh with relief.
"security cameras are reported to have broken down at the time of the robbery so it is unclear what the other two suspects look like" she continues.
"where do you think they're holding him?" i ask, getting up off the floor.
"you can't go and visit" grayson warns me.
"why not?"
"because we don't know if witnesses have given them a description of what we look like" he states.
"i don't care, i'm going to see him"
"you're being selfish" he mutters.
"selfish?" i scoff, "would you not do the same if it was bonnie?"
"i don't have a daughter"
"don't keep bringing lucy into this"
"fine do what you want, but when you're locked up i won't be raising your daughter" he snaps before storming upstairs.
"bon-"
"i know you have to go and see him" she nods, "when you find out where he's being held, i'll come with you and mind lucy"
"thank you" my voice cracks as she pulls me into a hug.
"and you're not being selfish" she whispers while comforting me.
"i don't know what to do bon" i sob, "he killed a man, he's going to be locked up for life"
"we'll worry about it later, there's nothing we can do right now" she reminds me.
"can you talk to gray?"
"about what?"
"i don't want him to hate me" i sniffle, wiping my tears away.
"aw babe, grayson could never hate you" she assures me, "he's just upset over everything that's happening"
"i-" my phone rings, interrupting me.
"hello?" i answer.
"an inmate at riverside penitentiary is trying to contact you" an automated voice speaks, "do you accept"
"yes" i blurt and the line connects us.
"jade, is that you?" i hear his voice.
"yeah" i sigh with relief, "it's me"
"good, i couldn't really remember your number" he admits making me laugh.
"are you okay?" i ask as my eyes start to sting from holding in tears.
