"you promise you'll call if you need anything?" jade asks zack for the fourth time, just as we're about to leave.

"i promise jade, she's in safe hands" he reminds her.

"i know that" she smiles.

"you promise you'll try to relax for one night?" he teases.

"shut up" she laughs.

"take care of her e" he says to me as we're finally walking out the door.

"always" i nod.

"love you!" she yells before getting into the car.

"be good" he smirks before going back inside.

"we've been together over a year and we've had a baby" she says once we're in the car, "why does this feel like our first date?"

"i think it is" i laugh nervously. maybe i should have planned something better than a fancy dinner.

"sometimes i forget there's a different life to ours" she admits.

"what do you mean?" i ask as we drive away from the house.

"a normal life, you know? 9-5 jobs, mortgages, legal money, legal jobs and no mafias"

"is that the life you want?"

"do you think we'd still be together if that's the life we had?"

"i couldn't imagine a life without you"

"so do you think we can have a life like that some day? put all of this behind us?" she asks me and i nod.

"what are you not telling me?" she narrows her eyes at me, examining my face.

"nothing-"

"ethan" she warns.

"it was supposed to be a surprise, zack was going to tell you about it soon" i trail off.

"tell me about what" she rushes me.

"we've been saving" i tell her, "zack came up with the idea to clean money at first but then you got shot and he seen it as a way out. our opportunity to get away from all of this"

"spit it out!" she laughs.

"he's opening a restaurant and club" i tell her.

"seriously?"

"yeah, we've almost saved enough money for it. our next job will probably be the last"

"a normal life for lucy" she sighs with relief.

ethan and i had the most amazing night. we just went for dinner but it was the most time we've spent alone since having lucy, and we loved every minute.

honestly i'm sad it's over, but it was also the longest i've ever been away from lucy and i miss her.

once we're home i take my keys out of my bag to unlock the door, until i notice it's already open.

ethan takes his gun from the back of his jeans and walks in ahead of me.

the sound of lucy crying echoes through the house.

"zack?" i yell, starting to panic.

we check the living room first which is empty before going into the kitchen.

the kitchen is destroyed. furniture is broken and dishes are smashed on the floor.

then i finally see him,
