"don't look at me like that" i sigh.

"like what?" ethan glares at me.

"like this is my fault!"

"i thought you were on the pill?"

"i am" i say, "but i missed a few"

he raises a brow at me.

"it takes two to make a baby!" i snap, getting frustrated.

"we need to get rid of it" he states, "i'll pay for it, drive you there and pick you up. do we need to book an appointment or-"

"ethan!"

"what?" he looks at me confused.

"this is a baby you're talking about. our baby"

"we can't keep it" he shrugs as if it's obvious.

"it's not you're decision" i scoff.

"it's half of my decision" he retorts.

"i'm not killing our baby"

"yes you are-"

"don't you dare talk to me like that" i warn him.

ethan and i rarely argue, but it looks like we're hitting a new milestone in our relationship tonight.

"that's not what i meant. if you let me finish, i was trying to explain that even if you have this baby, what kind of life are you giving it? we're just killing it slowly"

"i don't know- it's just really hard believing that's what you're really concerned about. grayson told me you never want kids"

"that was before i loved you" he mumbles.

"then why are you telling me not to have it?"

"because we're not ready. i can see myself having a family with you in the future, but we're not ready right now" he explains, "i'm only 20, you're still 18 and we rob banks for a living" he reminds me, "i want to do it right"

"what happens if i have this baby?" i ask nervously.

"what do you mean?"

"i can't force you to love a baby you never wanted, and i can't expect you to be involved"

"can we talk about this in the morning?" he yawns.

"whatever" i mutter getting into bed.

"jade-"

"goodnight ethan" i turn my lamp off.

i can hear him moving around before he finally gets into bed beside me.

usually i fall asleep in his arms, but tonight i put as much space between us as i possibly could.

after tossing and turning for what felt like hours, i give up trying to sleep and sit up.

"do you want to talk about it?" ethan mumbles.

"you don't want to listen" i scoff.

"i do" he rests his head on my lap.

"i can't kill my baby"

"that's your decision" he whispers.

"but if i do have the baby you're going to leave me, aren't you?" my voice cracks.

"i love you jade, i'm not going anywhere"

"what about the kitchen, to get me a drink?" i laugh and he smirks.

"only for you" he kisses my forehead before getting out of bed.

ethan

"why are you still awake?" zack asks when i find him in the kitchen.

"the same reason you are"

"she told you?"

"i found the test" i say, grabbing jade a bottle of water.

"has she made her mind up yet?" he asks nervously.

"i don't know. she said she can't have an abortion"

"i'm her brother, i have to support her with whatever she decides, but i don't think she should keep it" he admits and i nod in agreement.

"that's my child she's carrying, i should feel something for it but i don't" i sigh, "i'm just not ready to be a dad"

"talk her out of having this baby" zack warns as i'm going back upstairs.

"jade i was thinking-" i start as i come back into her room, but stop as soon as i hear her crying, "what's wrong?"

"i can't have this baby, can i?" she looks up at me with tears rolling down her cheeks.

"i don't know what to tell you"

"tell me what to do ethan, please" she begs.

this is my chance to talk her out of it, but i didn't have the heart to.

"you don't want an abortion?" i ask and she nods, "do you want to raise it?"

"i do, but i know i can't" she mutters.

"why not?"

"you said it yourself. we're still kids ourselves and we're criminals" she states.

"i think we're only known as criminals if we're caught" i smirk.

"i'm being serious" she laughs while still crying.

"okay, i'm sorry" i stop smiling.

"what are we going to do?" she sighs.

"what about adoption?" i suggest.

"both of us experienced foster care, would you feel okay putting a child through that? i wouldn't be able to live with the guilt"

"that's only if they're not adopted" i remind her.

"okay" she nods, "we'll start looking for couples to adopt the baby" she agrees.
