Michael's POV
I was sitting at our lunch table, talking to Jeremy and Jake. I had just broken up with my ex-girlfriend Nicole a few weeks prior, and Jake was lecturing me about it."I'm telling you man, you have to move on. You moped about it for a week and now you refuse to meet anyone new. I think you still like her."
Jake remarked, smirking and taking a sip from his Mountain Dew Red.
(That was all anyone drank anymore since the Squipcident)"I definitely do not still like her."
It was a toxic relationship, and I'm glad I got out of it. It still did bum though afterwards. That girl had a tight grip on me, and it was hard to let her go, but I'm glad I did.
"Sure." Jeremy rolled is eyes.
I grumbled.
"I don't! She was toxic, and I'm glad we broke up."
Jake smirked again, evilly this time.
"Prove it.""What?" I raised an eyebrow.
"Prove it. If you don't still like her, get yourself a girl. Just a rebound or whatever. Someone to officially leave her behind."
I sighed.
"I can't do that to someone. Finding out you're just a rebound is the worst." My head hung.
"Fine, then I'll have to assume you still like Nicole."Just the mention of her name sent a ping in my chest. The way she'd text me at night, and I'd go over. We'd make out and... well... you get it. She was fun.
Maybe I did still like her.No! I can't have those thoughts again. She was a bad person. I can't go back to that.
I stood up, and scanned the cafeteria, spotting a popular looking girl, talking to Brooke.
She seemed... tolerable. Someone who I could stand, but wouldn't mind breaking up with.I stepped form the table and walked over there, standing over her.
She looked up at me, sipping on her drink.
"Hi?" She said, smiling. She looked cute.
"Hi, I'm Michael." I stuck out my hand, and she took it, shaking the life out of it.
I chuckled and sat down next to her.
Brooke gave me a weird look, then half smiled.
"So Michael, whatcha doin' over here?"
She raised an eyebrow and smirked.
I gave her a 'shut up or I'll kill you' glare.I looked to the girl.
"I'm Y/N." She stated sweetly.
I smiled and leaned my elbow on the table.
"Well I couldn't help but notice how pretty you look. I was wondering if I could take you out sometime? Get it know each other?"
She raised an eyebrow and sipped her drink through her straw.
"Like... a date?"
I smiled.
"If that's what you wanna call it."She smiled and stood up, grabbing her things.
"I would love to Michael."
She pulled out a pen from her bag, and grabbed my arm, shoving my sleeve up.
She wrote her number on my forearm, and waved to Brooke, swaggering off.
I watched her, and turned around to see Brooke glaring daggers at me.
"What the hell are you doing Michael?"I pushed my glasses up.
"What are you talking about?"
She scoffed.
"You know what I'm talking about! You need a rebound, you just broke up with Nicole. But
Y/N? You can't do that to her."
I felt my guilt build a little higher.
"Why not? Y/N seems nice, and it wouldn't hurt her to have a little 'fling' or whatever."
I said, making air quotes.
Brooke scoffed.
"Whatever, just don't come crying to me when you break her heart and don't know what to do. Especially when you have a broken nose."
I raised an eyebrow.
"Broken nose?"
She stood up and flipped her hair over her shoulder, cracking her knuckles.
"I'm pretty strong for my size Mell."
And with that she swaggered away after Y/N.
I sighed, feeling the guilt churn in my stomach.I turned around to see Jeremy whooping and hollering, and Jake pushing his pointer finger through a hole with his fingers.

I rolled my eyes and walked out to my car, needing to clear my brain..
