Michael's POV
I couldn't do this anymore. The hopeless searching, the general hopelessness. It was too much. I couldn't take much more.
How could she still be alive?
Jeremy?
Christine?
Any of them?
I laid on my bed disheartened. My phone buzzed. Another amber alert no doubt.
**NEWS FLASH: KIDNAPPER CAUGHT**
I froze, my eyes looming over the words.
Was this real? Am I dreaming?I opened the article.
Mass kidnapper caught after pursing the wrong kid. After Westerburg student Jason Dean, was pursed and attacked by our kidnapper, he fought back hard, immobilizing the attacker.
"I was just trying to protect myself. I'm glad I was there." Says Dean.I couldn't believe it. They caught him.
They actually caught him.
I searched for more articles. They were all popping up.
WESTERBURG HERO!
HIGH-SCHOOL SWIPER CAPTURED!
JASON DEAN SAVED US!
I opened one.Captured students will continue to be searched for, and will likely be discovered soon if investigations follow as expected.
I called Y/N's aunt.
"Hello?! D-"
"MICHAEL!! Did you see the news?! They caught him!"
I smiled, tears coming to my eyes. After all that hoping, all that praying, he was put away, locked up, gone. Now they just have to find my friends.
I hope they're still ali-
Nope.
I'm not thinking like that.
They ARE still alive.
I know it.Y/N POV
We were slouched against our seats.
I stared at Jeremy and he stared back at me.
I didn't even bother pulling at my restraints.
I had tried too many times.
And too many times had I been punished with the sickly sweet pull of sedatives. My stomach growled, and I almost hoped for food, despite it being the same stale, white bread every time. We were all pretty confused.
There was no real concept of time here, but we were pretty sure NASA shirt had been gone for much longer than normal.I stared at ripped-letterman-jacket guy, and his eyes looked so tired. I was pretty sure I was the most rebellious. I hated seeing others get hurt, so I usually acted out before NASA shirt could hurt them. He hated me the most I think.
I had some bruises I was pretty sure, but it didn't bother me too much. My mom was, well... my mom, after all.
There was a loud pounding at the door that scared us, making me jump. The pounding got louder and harder, before the door flew open.
Tall men with blacks uniforms and a large block stood there. They dropped their block, to hit the door no doubt, and ran in, wielding guns.
There was yelling, blinding lights, I was shocked. We were actually going to get out?
We were actually going to be saved? There were hands around my arms, hitting and chains breaking, muffled shouts from kids.
The handkerchief was ripped from my mouth and I felt my whole body collapse in weakness.
Two arms picked me up and I felt wounds open at the contact. There was more shouting, and my vision starting fading.
No. No no no no I can't go back to sleep.
I can't go back to sleep.
But it was too late. I slipped away. The darkness consumed me, and the sick sweet burned my nose, but only as haunting memories. Those would stick with me forever I bet. Never would I sleep without the haunting aroma of sedatives.
