moved away from the overtaking of the world after their talk. Tom didn't believe for a second that she had stopped thinking about it, but she simply hadn't brought it up. She had stopped sitting down to write pages of handcrafted notes or strategies that would make generals proud. He knew that there just wasn't anything left to plan. She had already thought of it all, but it came down to disturbing the peace that she had found as well as involving the two men who had destroyed her life.

Tom thought about Evelyn's manic words in the snow, about the fact that he was hers and no one would take him from her. He had often wondered if, now that they had become so comfortable in their new life, she thought that, selfishly, she could keep him for herself for as long as she was able.

Domesticity was a waste of time for both of them. They were the keys to bringing down two of the most powerful wizards of their time. With all the notes she had written, they essentially had a first-class ticket to overtaking the world.

Evelyn clearly did not care. She had never cared for his agenda when she had always had her own. As autumn had turned to winter, she had focused solely on making their home feel inviting. She had let her guard down around him, fully believing that Tom wanted to stay in her arms, that he, too, could forget their past and focus on this being their beginning.

She fell asleep on the couch and left her yarn out on the chair. She kept the door to her room open and the fireplace in the living room built with a warm heat. She had unashamedly touched him when he passed her and smiled brightly when they talked. They kissed and had grown so accustomed to each other's bodies that Tom often forgot that there was one without the other.
But he always remembered. In the dead of the night, with Evelyn's head resting against his chest, he would shoot up and remember he wanted more. He had become uncomfortable with his compliance to not go forward with his plans. He had always been right about the dangers of letting Evelyn trick him into forgetting his goals.

It was at the end of December when he had brought up the subject again. Evelyn was nestled into his side infront of the fire on the couch. A blanket she had knitted was laid across their laps, and both of them were reading. He didn't know when they had given up on boundaries and had decided to just give in to being close to each other.

He put his book down on the edge of the couch and picked up a few of Evelyn's curls that had fallen onto his chest. He twisted them between his fingers, and he heard Evelyn hum absentmindedly. She peeked up at him from her book and smiled.

"Are you bored with reading, Tom?" She teased, her eyes finding the slight curve of his mouth.

"I was just thinking," Tom said as he ran his thumb down the side of her face.

"Always a bad thing," Evelyn laughed and looked back at her book. Tom waited for her to ask about what, but knew she wouldn't feel the need to. She knew he would tell her no matter what.
