never had such strange dreams. Never had he slept so soundly to have any dreams before. But Evelyn had somehow been the cause of both.

When he finally awoke in the dribbling rays of dawn, he felt as if he had been cursed multiple times and then, just for fun, been run over by a horse. His head hurt so horribly that it took all his strength to open his eyes and then, immediately, all his lasting thoughts to regret it.

He nearly lost whatever was left in his rotting stomach.

Tom had begun imagining if death really was a better option in some cases when a cool hand rested on his forehead. The other gently guided him back into his pillows.

"Here," Evelyn's calm voice broke through his pounding migraine. "Try this."

Before he had any time to protest, she held a steaming mug that smelled strongly of ginger up to his lips. He took a tentative sip, and immediately, he felt well enough to at least take the drink from her.

"I know what it's like to be this miserable," Evelyn laughed, breathy and kind. "I all but had to perfect this kind of potion."

Tom only opened his eyes slightly at her, not feeling just up to responding. The potion was quite good, and he would thank her if he had any memories after they had begun drinking together. One minute, they were on the floor, a vague feeling he might have been touching her hair, and then he was here in agony.

"You know I was getting worried about you," Evelyn uttered softly, making Tom look over at her again. "After you slept for an entire night and day, I almost thought I had killed you."

"I can't die," Tom scoffed, the only thing he could mumble out through his waning nausea.

"Yes, you can," Evelyn said, her eyes sparkling. There was something in the way she said things, the intensity with which she looked at him, that made Tom uncomfortable. Made him look away from her, if only not to be hit with the truth of her words.

"How?" Tom grumbled as he vaguely waved his hand in Evelyn's direction. "And why can't I remember what happened?"

"I drank you clean under the table, is how," Evelyn laughed as she sat back on the bed beside him. "As for what happened, I hate to be the one to tell you this, but you did confess your undying love for me."

"I can't love you," Tom choked, not entirely sure that she wasn't telling the truth. He had been thinking about her too much for his comfort. Evelyn's smile seemed to know more than she was letting on.

"No, but you did tell me the truth of what is going on between you and Calista," Evelyn said as she looked at him, that the game between them had clearly been just as stupid as him getting as drunk as he did. "I like a game that I actually gained something in, but this one was just tiresome."
