It was really dark, all the time. It was all she knew. Not only was there darkness around her physically, but there was darkness in her heart. Every waking day seemed to last a month and she had to suffer through it without rest. The only time there was light was when there was a blinding light in her eyes and that's when they would hurt her.
At this point, she didn't remember her life before the pain. It might as well have been nonexistent because there wasn't any of it left to hold on to. At this point, she had nearly been driven so mad by the torture, that any grasp on reality seemed to slip as quickly as she found it. At this point, everything was the same routine. Any stray from it and she felt as though her heart couldn't handle it. At this point, she had lost herself; she knew there was a person hiding deep down within her mind but at this point, she believed there was no getting her back.
But then everything changed.
It started with a sound. She had never heard this sound, so it alarmed her. Then came the voices. She could hear yelling and no one ever yelled here, unless they were mad. Bad things happened when they were mad.
As she felt her heartrate slowly climb, she listened as the voices got louder and louder until they sounded like they were right outside the door to her cell. She shuffled herself quickly into the corner, where the light from the hallway would not reach and tried to slow her breathing, in an effort to hide herself, as the locks on the door started to click she found this to be impossible.
There was a moment of silence before the door started to creak open. The light poured into her dark cell and she shoved her face into her arm both to hide her eyes it, and to muffle the sound of her ragged breath. In the doorway stood five people, faces shadowed by the contrast of light and darkness.
"No one here, on to the next-"
"Loki wait," someone interrupted. They stepped closer to her slowly and the others followed behind, staying back a few paces. "Can you give me some light?" They said, waving behind them. A blue light filled the room and she looked up. "There you are," said the man. She could see some of his face now. Blond with blue eyes. Behind him stood a woman with red hair, another, shorter blond man, a man encased in some sort of metal suit, and lastly, a thin, lanky man, with slicked back hair, holding a staff that was glowing blue. "We're here to help you- if you want to leave, of course." He held out his hand for her to take and she did.

After a few weeks safe at Avengers tower, she started to get more comfortable but still hardly spoke. When she spoke before she would be beaten so she constant faught the urge speak. Now, she had to get used to people expecting a response. She had to constantly remind herself to say good morning back to people she would come across in the hallways but would never elect to start a conversation.
There was one person she wanted to talk to, though: Loki. The man with the glowing staff the day she was rescued. He too was different, it seemed. He didn't fit in with the others as much. He too hardly spoke to the others, only engaging in conversation when it was absolutely necessary. When they were in the same room together she would occasionally notice him looking at her.
One morning, she was making herself some breakfast. The Avengers were telling her that she needed to 'get some more meat on her bones' as she still looked unhealthy skinny from her time with Hydra. Someone walked in, but she didn't look up.
"Good morning," they said as they walked past her to the fridge.
"Good morning," she replied, quietly.
"Are you starting to feel more comfortable here, (y/n)?" The person continued. Now she looked up to see that it was Loki who was talking to her.
"Oh," (y/n) stuttered. "Um, yeah- well- yeah."
He turned and smiled at her before gently saying, "it's difficult. Change generally is, but you're doing very well considering how dramatically your life did change."
"Thank you."
"If you ever need someone to talk to," he continued, "feel free to come find me. I know what change is like, I know how hard it can be. I also know that I would have liked to have someone to talk to, so, I'm here if you need."
"Thank you."
He walked away. As she watched him leave she thought back on his interactions with his other team members. He wasn't nearly this gentle with them. She appreciated his kind words. Maybe she would go find him.
I hope you liked it! I'm soooooo sorry about how long it took, I've been very busy with all my classes.
