"Daniella? Dani, seriously?", my sister sighs as I stay hidden under my blanket. "We have to be at mom and dads house in thirty minutes"
"I'm not going, Jess", I state as I pull the blanket over my head, ramen noodles hanging from my mouth. "Dani, you're a mess. Go take a shower and get dressed, we're going to be late"
"I'm not going!"
"And why not? I know moms parties aren't the best but you know how she is when we don't go. You'll be fine", she tries to reassure me as she pulls away my bowl of noodles from my hands. I give her a dirty look as she pulls my blanket away from me, leaving me to be encased in the cold air. "No, I won't be fine"
"Don't you think you're exaggerating a little bit?", she sighs as she tries to pull me up. "No I don't think so, Jessica. It's easy for you to say when mom and dad don't chastise you about when you're going to settle down or why your dates aren't working out. You found someone to spend the rest of your life with, and I haven't"
She scans my face and stays quiet. "Go get dressed. I'll try and distract mom throughout the night", she finally says. I curse under my breath knowing that there was no way I was getting out of this. I walk up the stairs and into my room as I turn on the shower. After hearing my sister yell to hurry up I step out of the shower and dry off, walking over to my closet to find something suitable for my moms party and her very opinionated friends.
I pull out a blouse and a pair of dress pants along with a pair of heels as I go back into my bathroom to change. I add mascara and my favorite lipstick that I own; chapstick. I wasn't trying to impress anyone tonight. I didn't have the energy to anymore.
I pull my hair into a low ponytail and grab my purse as my sister practically drags me out of the house. I slam the car door shut as she gets into her own car, Devon in the drivers seat. He waves at me through the window and smiles as I send him a small wave. Of course my sister brought Devon, now I'd never hear the end of it.
I follow behind my sisters car as we turn onto my parents street. I do a silent prayer before stepping out of my car and walking up to the front door of their house. My sister rings the doorbell and within seconds my cheerful mother opens it. "Jessica! You look beautiful, sweetheart, and Devon! My soon-to-be son in-law, you look very handsome", she smiles as she places her hands in each of theirs. I roll my eyes from behind them as they head inside the house.
I step forward as my mom analyzes me from head to toe. She puts on a fake smile as she hugs me, patting my back, "Daniella, dear, you look——nice", she tries. She peers behind me, looking over both of my shoulders. "And your plus one? Is he parking the car?"
I sigh in annoyance as I look at her with a blank expression, "No plus one. It's just me", I push past her and enter her house as I try and find a quiet corner. Dozens of upper class people roamed the halls of my parents house as they stood talking to each other with their overpriced outfits and champagne glasses.
