⤚ The Road Unseen ⤙

Araya

THE silence in the car was insufferable. No one dared to speak in this mess of a situation afraid of offending someone. No one even dared to sit in the front seat next to Raiden as he kept his hand on the steering wheel quite tight.

Hardened eyes stared into the concrete road as I sent a silent prayer that no cop would pull us over. It wasn't even about Raiden no doubt not having a license part. That was just a minor misdemeanor; I mean he had one thousand years to practice his driving skills.

Hell he was alive when the first car was ever invented. I'm pretty sure having Raiden as the driver was the safer option opposed to Storm. Although Akiya had his license, but he didn't seem to be in a condition to drive; as well as the fact that his spirit was still out.

And I'm not sure if all of the driving knowledge that Akiya happened to have was passed down to his spirit. And with the high intensity of the situation we didn't have time to find out. But the lack of license was small considering Daiki was the one tied up.

He was in the back seat with handcuffs on as well as two seats belts on. One was wrapped around his torso in a funky type of fashion. His katana was also in the front far out of reach for when he began to rise. Daiki was sitting on the floor.

He had forsaken his seat for Nightshade to sit down and stay buckled in. She was the only one with the seatbelt on. But she wasn't as durable as the rest of us in the car. Issei came off as a heartless bastard, but he proved himself that he wasn't while being here.

While he may have ran with Nightshade he was still the reason Daiki didn't get very far in getting all of the other nogitsunes out. He was a big reason that we still weren't there. And a reason I had even the tiny bit of a fighting chance.

And with Issei came Nightshade and her incredibly dangerous stunt caused us to escape. Of course we almost got injured while trying to, but we still ended up escaping. That is all that matters to me. I looked over at Storm who was on the floor playing with the ends of the shirt.

We had been driving for a few hours. Raiden got on the highway to avoid us being caught on the small dwindling roads that the asylum had to lead back into Willows. Were we even going back to Willows? The hardened look on Raiden's face made me unsure.

But we had four extra people. Raiden wanted Akiya and I, and here we sat in the car on the road. But Storm happened to be here, but then again she was a werewolf and could easily disappear along with her mom. Issei and Daiki could do that. Nightshade I'm not sure about?

But I already knew Issei had that underwraps. The likelihood of him leaving Nightshade undefended especially know that his vindictive and sadistic mom knew about her were slim to none, well most likely none. I looked at the car window where trees roared past us blowing in the wind no doubt feeling the ominous air.

"It's dark." Akiya noted and Raiden glanced behind. "We should probably stop at a hotel for the night." Akiya spoke. "I can look for a small motel." Raiden spoke. "No." Storm spoke pushing herself up. "Pardon me?" Raiden asked looking at Storm a bit taken back at her challenge.

"A motel is an obvious place that you would hide up. They will no doubt be checking all of the small motels in the area. The motels have minimal security and won't provide much of a job. It'll be the first place they hit up," Storm started.

"A modern and popular hotel will be a good place. Just try to get a room where it will be easier to get Daiki in. It'll be more expensive, but would you rather spend more money and be safe or spend less and be in danger?" Storm asked and Raiden bit his lip.
