We walked downstairs to the dining room finding that everyone had returned. My eyes settled on Jolie, afraid I would see the darkness of fear in her eyes when she glanced at me but instead I only found her expression softening into a smile as she pulled a woman with same mocha tinted skin close to her.

"Thank you," Jolie said, her voice soft in relief as her eyes moved to Lanie, "Thank all of you. You saved me and Frankie and Veil and Fane."

"You are family now," I said as I moved forward, "We'll always protect you."

"How did you meet Fane and Veil?" Lanie asked as confused as the rest of us how they crossed paths.

Jolie's bottom lip quivered, "Some of those people came for us while we slept in our home in Boston. They brought us here. Fane and Veil were brought in and they tried to protect us. They said we were special to their kind and they were like guardians."

"So, you know nothing about us?" I asked, frowning.

"We do," she said, her voice trembling, "We've had dreams. I saw you and your friend beside you in them. My parents told me in those dreams that people were trying to kill us because of our gifts...To find you. I don't understand because Frankie is the only one with a gift but maybe I'm wrong because those people did come for us and I see you and your friend and vampires are real. I saw that with my own eyes."

Gilliam tilted his head as he peered at Jolie and inhaled, "You think you aren't gifted because you think you should have the same gifts as your sister, right?"

Jolie nodded, "That would make sense."

Gilliam shook his head, "But it doesn't. Your gift is air, not water," he said, softly.

"Gilliam..." Lanie warned.

"We are allowed to tell her what gift she has when her parents have told her she's gifted and she knows about her sister," he said, raising his brow, "Everyone here knows which gifts they possess."

"Why can't you tell me anything else?" Jolie asked, frowning.

"Let me ask what your parents told you?" I asked, putting my hand up in an effort to calm the increasingly worried expression in Jolie's face. The last thing we needed was for Jolie and Frankie to run because they lost trust in us.

Jolie frowned, "Th-They said we are witches," she said, her bottom lip trembling.

"And you are and so is every woman in this room," I said, glancing around at the women as they nodded, "There is a rule that the ancestors tell you why you're here and other things in your dreams. It is to prevent any doubt or deception. So as you learn something, you must tell us but tell me and Lanie first because there are certain things the others don't know yet."
