All the vampire brothers and the coven had settled into the manor. We were in our room, readying for Bastian's return from the descent. He was standing in the middle of the bathroom, showered and dressed, a frown on his face.

"Is everything okay, Jonathon?" I asked, raising my brow as I pulled on my Docs. His eyes slid over me, dressed in fishnets and a black corset dress. I flicked my long brown hair over my shoulder. His eyes softened as he stepped toward me.

"Have I told you how beautiful you are, lately?" He asked, his voice soft.

"Even if you did, you can tell me again," I said, rising to face him, "And don't think I didn't realize that you didn't answer me."

His emerald eyes darkened again, "I'm going to have to descend to Dimitri soon," he said, his eyes moving over my face, "And it's not that I don't think you are strong. I know you are but Margaret is powerful too."

"And I'm getting stronger," I said, raising my chin, "And now that the coven is together, there is no telling what we can do."

"Iz, most of them can't open the Grimoire," he said, shadows gathering in his eyes.

"But Lanie and I can," I said, taking a deep breath, "We can view the spells and you don't know who will accept their mates in the meantime."

"True," he said, sighing, "But we also don't know if they will as quickly as you and Lanie did."

"I don't know," I said, raising my brows, "Bethany wants to. Dimitri stopped her. As soon as he wakes, I know she'll claim him."

"If he wakes," he said, his eyes shadowing further, "We have to prepare for the possibility that he won't."

I narrowed my eyes, "And maybe we should have a bit of faith in Dimitri."

He glanced upward and sighed, "I know. Dimitri will do everything he can but we also don't know the demon he's facing."

"Obviously, our ancestors did," I said, smiling, "There are spells to help him."

He nodded, gripping my waist and pulling me closer, "Okay. I'll quit worrying," he said, brushing my lips with his own but I pulled him into a deeper kiss.

"Good," I said against his lips, "Because as long as I have you, everything will be okay. Your descent will be painful but I know you'll return to me. I'll be there with you the whole time."

"As long as I know you're there, that will help," he said, glancing at the door as a knock sounded.

"It's almost time for his return," Gilliam said, worry in each word.

"I'm sure you don't want to miss that," Jonathon said, raising his brows.

I clasped his hand in mine, "You know me well," I said, tugging him toward the door so we could welcome Bastian back into the world of the living.
