Katie woke up, and saw a snowflake on her blanket. It never melted, all it did was stay there like a boat sailing in the sky. Katie picked it up. The snowflake was also, somehow related to the fire and the water...
"Should we go yet?"
Katie looked up at Fern, standing by the door. She got out of the bed and stood up.
"I said, should we go yet?"
"I think we should." Said Katie. "But I need to do something first. Follow me."
Katie and Fern ran over to the gift shop and went inside.
"Is one of you named Fern?" Asked the cashier.
"I am." Said Fern. "Anyway, why are we here?"
"Here is your snow globe." Said the cashier, handing the globe to Katie.
The snow globe was perfect! Inside the Snow Globe, the Katie and Fern figures were high-fiving with both hands, and having heads turned to each other. Katie shook the globe. The snow fell down on the figures.
"That's cool!" Said Fern, "But we should get going."
"See you later." Said the cashier.
Katie and Fern went out of the cave.
"So, the sailboat-"
Katie saw an iceberg that looked like a replica of the sailboat. It's sail was made with a cold cloth, with icicles holding on to it.
"Katie, did you remodel the sailboat?" Asked Fern.
"No," Said Katie, "But it's amazing!"
Katie was sailing north this time, instead of south. Fern was only looking up at the sky, bored.
"Land!" Yelled Katie.
"Land?" Asked Fern.
"No wait, just an iceberg." Said Katie.
"That is land!" Said Fern.
"Not where we can settle." Answered Katie.
Katie sailed for about two hours. She turned left, then right, and sailed by an island.
"This island is nice." Said Fern.
"I don't know what the water is like over there." Said Katie, "You should stay on this island."
"What! No!" Yelled Fern, "I'm coming with!"
Katie looked at the island and was something familiar...
"Your home is here!" Said Katie, "You would be safer here than off of land!"
"Wait, really?" Asked Fern.
Fern looked at the cave, then the nearly-setting sun.
"You can't sail at night!"
"I know you can, but I need to make this journey alone."
"Fine." Said Fern, "Go and die on the bottom of the ocean."
"Fine." Said Katie.
Katie didn't mean to hurt his feelings, she just wanted him to stay safe. Katie sailed on, past the island.
High waves were in a storm, rocking the boat, but Katie held on to life. She kept sailing and sailing in the storm. But then, a giant wave flipped the boat! Katie swam up and went back onto the boat. Another wave crashed into the boat, and Katie was below very deep. She swam up, but couldn't swim all the way in time...
"Are you okay?" Asked Fern.
Katie coughed up some water.
"Fern?" Asked Katie.
"Yes I am Fern." Said Fern, "I was asking if you were okay."
"I'm fine." Said Katie, "And I'm sorry."
"It's fine." Said Fern, "I forgive you."
Katie got up and looked around. It looked like a leaf was beside her, but when she picked it up, it was cold as stone.
"Do you keep giving me these?" Asked Katie.
"No." Said Fern, "I guess the sky just gave it to you."
Katie wondered what all the stones were for. She got the ones she had so far from her satchel, and looked at all of them. Fire, Water, a snowflake and a leaf, what could they mean?
