July 27th, 6 years later:

"Daddy Daddy Daddy!!!"

Bruce looked up from his desk and smiled. A small head of golden blonde hair came hopping through his office door, her big dark eyes looking up at him and melting his heart. Denver had crumbs of some sort all over her black shirt with the Batman symbol on it, and the little newly six year old was very excited about something. Alfred had most likely made cookies and Denver was coming to tell him.

"What is it Dennie?" Bruce asked, knowing her answer had to be one of two things. She was either going to tell him about the cookies, or ask him what day it was today. "Guess what me and granddaddy made?"

She climbed into his lap and looked up at him, waiting for him to guess. Her blonde curls bounced around her sweet face, and Bruce smiled and said, "Did you and granddaddy make cookies?"
She gasped and giggled, "how did you know Daddy?"

He brushed the cookie crumbs off her face. "I'm the greatest detective ever, and you had some evidence on your face."

She giggled again and she nuzzled her head into his his chest. "Do you know what today is Daddy?" Bruce leaned back in his chair and looked at his daughter with warm eyes.

"Is today... Christmas?"

Denver giggled. "No silly. Christmas is in December, when it snows."

"I see," Bruce said. "Then today must be Easter." Denver giggled more and shook her head.

"Then I'm fresh out of ideas," Bruce smiled at Denver's frustration.

"Daddy! Today is my birthday!!!" She jumped off his lap and began jumping up and down. "Today I am six!"

Bruce gasped and chuckled. "It's your birthday? Well that explains this pretty box that has been behind my desk for a month!" Denver smiled and shrieking she jumped in the air once again. Bruce gestured to the door. "Go and find granddaddy then come right back."

Denver ran out of the room. A few minutes later she returned with Alfred, who was holding her small hand in his. Bruce lifted a pretty blue and purple box from beneath his desk and handed it to Denver. "Happy Birthday my dear," Bruce whispered.

Denver giggled and opened the box. Her smile grew even bigger when she lifted a butterscotch colored bear from the package. She hugged the bear close to her and looked up at the two men in the room. "Thank you daddy and granddaddy."

"You're quite welcome young miss," Alfred bowed to the small six year old. Bruce was about to say his comment, when the telephone rang. Bruce almost growled at the interruption, but picked up the phone.

"Hello?" He asked. The voice on the other end of the line was one Bruce didn't feel like hearing.

"Mr. Wayne? This is Mr. Cage."

From the meeting, thought Bruce. "What do you need Mr. Cage?"

"I was wondering if we could hold another meeting sometime today?" Bruce groaned. This was not what he needed at the moment.

"I'll see you tomorrow at nine in my office." Bruce said with authority. "If that's alright with you."

Mr.Cage agreed and hung up the phone. Bruce rubbed his face and heard a small voice squeak, "do you have to go daddy?"

Bruce picked up Denver and said, "no baby doll I don't have to go."

Denver smiled and nuzzled her head into him.

It was finally summer, the sun was bright and warm, and the flowers were beginning to shine bright. Denver was running across the lawn with Bruce watching closely. He was lost in thought, thinking about how it was time to send Denver to school in the fall. He was not wanting to let her go, but Alfred had let him know that Denver was going to have to go and be a normal six year old for the time being.

"Daddy," Bruce heard from his little girl, "can we go to the circus tonight? It'll be so much fun!" She said pulling on his pant leg.

"Oh I guess," he said.

"Yea!" She then ran off looking for something new to do. She shrieked and shouted, "Daddy look! A birdie!"

"Yes Dennie that's a robin," Bruce said gently. They watched the bird fly away, and started to go back to the house so they could get ready to go to the circus.
