The lights.

The lights were blinding. They weren't ordinary lights though. They were circus lights. Big beautiful lights, making sure that the center of attention shone as bright as they could.

"And now ladies and gentlemen, the moment you have all been waiting for, the death defying, the fearless.." Jack Haley went on and on, the ring master earning everyone's attention.

"Oh Daddy look at the elephants!" Dennie screeched.

Bruce chuckled at her giddiness and softly spoke, "yes love, those are elephants." Denver was pulling Bruce along, holding his hand and squeezing it whenever she got excited. Bruce then noticed that the show was about to start. "Denver, we gotta go get our seats of you want to see the circus."

Her big, dewy brown eyes lit up, and she then began to lead the Batman into the big tent.

"The death-defying, the fearless, the one and only, The Flying Grayson's!"

Small blue eyes looked down from the trapeze platform. The yellow 'R' sown onto his uniform was bright against the red leotard. Richard Grayson, six years of age, looked down at the platform from where he and his family were standing. Richard, known as Dick, waved to the crowd of people sitting in the stands. He heard the clapping, the cheers, all meant for him and his family. The felt his mother place one hand on his shoulder, and comfort filled him. Looking up, he saw his mother Mary Grayson, with her red hair and soft eyes. Dick saw his father John Grayson, with his startling blue eyes and broad shoulders. Looking over Dick saw his his aunt, uncle and cousin John wave before they started their act. First, his aunt, uncle and cousin leaped onto the trapeze and started to fly threw the air. Then his father and mother joins them, grabbing onto their hands and feet, gracefully going from one place to the next.

Then, it was Dick's turn. He was the littlest Grayson, and even though he didn't get much time to fly, he loved the feeling of the bar under his hand. Cousin John came swinging from the bar by his feet, gesturing to Dick and reached out for Dick to grab on. The little acrobat reached out and flew with his family. Then after a while, they all stood on the platform and waited for Jack Haley, ringmaster of the circus to announce the next part of the Flying Grayson's act.

"And now ladies and gentlemen!" Haley called out to the crowd. "The performance you've all been waiting for! Our acrobats will preform... Without the net!"

They waved to the crowd, but a small voice pipped up, "can I please preform without the net with you guys tonight? Please?"

Dick cousin ruffled his hair. "You'll get to fly with the big birds when you're older buddy," he spoke in Romanian, their native language. "Until then, you get to sit up here and look pretty."

Laughing, Dicks cousin, aunt and uncle started their trapeze act, waiting for John and Mary to join them. After a moment, Dicks father smiled at his son before joining the other acrobats. Dick was now hair with his mother, who bent down to be eye level with him. "Richard," she spoke softly and sweetly, like honey over warm bread. "You know, when I see you out there, plying with us. You make me think of a little robin."

Smiling, she kept off the platform and joined with the rest of the act. Richard, warmed by his mothers words, watched the last act the Flying Grayson's preformed.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Watch Denver," Bruce said to his daughter sitting in his lap. "This is dangerous stuff that their performing. You'll never see another thing like it."
Denver was in awe, watching the red uniforms fly over the ground without a net. She saw that one of the flying persons was just watching. Looking at the little boy, Denver missed the rope snapping, but saw the look on Dick Grayson's face as he saw his family fall.
~~~~~~~~

"Mami! Tati!"

Dick watched it happen in slow motion. His father reaching out for his mother. His aunt turning a pale white. His cousin closing his eyes as they began to fall.

But Dick locked eyes with his mother for a few seconds. She looked to see if her little robin was safe. Seeing that he was still on the platform, she whispered to him, "I love you so much."

Dick screamed. He reached out for someone to grab his hand, but no one did. Tears streamed down his face, and he watched his family hit the ground. They all laid on the ground, pools of red forming around them.

Dick climbed down the steps to the platform. He kneeled by his mother, who in her dying moment was held by her husband. The two laid with her in his arms.

"Mami?" He questioned. No reply.

"Tati?" Silence.

"John?" His dear cousin only stared into nothingness with dead eyes.
~~~~~~~~~~
Screaming broke out within seconds. Bruce had tried to cover Denver's eyes, but it was too late. She saw everything.
Her violent sobs racked her body. She buried her fave in her fathers chest. "Daddy daddy," she cried.
Rocking back and forth, Bruce stood up to take her out of the tent when the sound stopped him.
Richard Grayson had let out a dreadful noise. Only the noise one makes when they know true grief and loss. Bruce Wayne, sitting in the crowd knew that sound. It was the sound he made when his parents died. Stopping dead in his tracks, Bruce closed his eyes. A single tear fell. "Denver," he whispered. "Just keep your eyes closed until Daddy says other wise, okay?"
Denver sobbed silently. "Why daddy?" She asked.
"We have to go see the little boy." Bruce whispered in her little ear.
Denver opened her big brown eyes. "That boy doesn't have a mommy anymore daddy."
Bruce winced.
"Or a daddy..." Denver finished.
Bruce held her a little closer as they walked to the center ring that was holding a grieving child and his dead family.
