-Denver is now 8 and Dick is 9. Wasn't sure how to slide that in so, there you go :)

"Daddy.... hey Daddy.... Daddy look at me.... Daddy.... Look. At. Me. Hey daddy-"

Bruce placed his hand over eight year old Denver's mouth. "Sweetheart I'm busy," he mumbled as he looked over the sea of papers on his desk. "I've got lots of things to do for work, then I've got Batman stuff to do. Go eat a cookie, or watch Frozen or, something," he finished waving his hand around for emphasis. "But only one cookie Denver Grace. Last time I let you have cookies unsupervised you got sick on my rug."

Rolling her eyes, Denver left while sighing, "Frozen isn't cool anymore Daddy. Get with the picture." (Ah the wonder of children.)

Bruce laughed. "Then what is cool right now? Please tell me, so that I can know how to be cool."

She poked her head in the doorframe. "Sofia The First is cool. So are puppies. We should get a puppy daddy," she said smiling.

Bruce laughed. "Maybe Dennie. Go play with Dick, he's in his room."

"DICK!" Denver ran down the hallways. "DICK!!!!!" She hollered as she ran to his room. She opened the door and looked to see him lying on the floor with a book in hand.

Nine year old Dick signed in annoyance and closed his book. "Did you need something?" He asked as nicely as he could.

Denver plopped down on his bed. "No," she simply said. "I just wanted to see what you were doin'."

Dick opened his book back up. "I'm reading," he said nonchalantly. He heard Denver sigh and sit on his bed in silence- for about ten seconds.

"Hey Dick.... Dick. Hey, look at me. Dick...... Richard...... Hey, look at me. Richard John..... Richard John Grayson. Hey I'm talking to you-"

"I AM READING RIGHT NOW!" Dick yelled and looked over at Denver. Her eyes were wide, like they always were when he shouted at her. "Please stop talking," he calmly added.

Denver hopped off the bed and sat next to him on the floor. "You know daddy's been ignoring us lately," she said with curls falling around her face. Dick looked over at his little sister.

"It's because your so annoying," he pinched her nose. "Now leave me be." Looking back at his book he heard Denver groan and roll onto her back.

"It seems like he's always doing something," she rambled. "Like filling out papers, or doing Batman things- hey, you know what I was thinking about?"

Dick kept reading his book. "Oh, do tell," he sarcastically replied. "It's a bit dangerous when you start thinking."

Denver slapped him not-so-gently on the arm. "Take that back Grayson. But anywho- daddy's always gone as Batman, and he always has work to do." She paused and looked at him.

Dick looked at her. "That is a great observation Captain Obvious. Are you also going to tell me that he also breathes, eats cereal before going to bed, has a pair of pink socks and owns one Hawaiian shirt?"

Denver hit him a bit harder. "Will you just listen? Now," she shook her hands out and smiled. "What if he had a sidekick to help him out?"

"You mean like one of those elves that Santa has? I'm not sure those are for sale this time of year. Ow, don't hit me!"

Denver stood up in front of Dick with hands on her hips. "You dork! I mean you and me! I mean, our dad is Batman, who else would do a better job then us?!"

Dick shrugged his shoulders. "Dennie, he would say no. And besides, he has Alfred to do stuff for him-"

Denver got back down and looked into his ocean blue eyes. "But you could get justice for your parents. You could beat the stuffings out of the guy who hurt them. I could be... I could be Batgirl!Yeah, that sounds cool! And you could be, you could be..." she scratched her head. "Well, I don't know. Batboy sounds really stupid- so does Batkid."

Dick playfully covered Denver's face with his hand. "Go away Batgirl, I have books to read. And you have worksheets from school to do."

Denver rolled her eyes and walked out of the room. But Dick thought about what she said, her words ringing in his ears. 'You could get justice for your parents.'

Dick closed the book and walked off to have a talk with Bruce.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
The kids had never actually seen Bruce in his Batman getup. Bruce didn't want them to talk about it. "It's not anything to talk about," he would say. "It's just a second occupation."
Dick could remember when he had first come and Denver had to tell him a secret. "My daddy's Batman," she had said. "But don't tell him I told you, cause I'll get sent to bed with no bedtime story of he finds out."
Then he could remember how Bruce had walked out of the room nearby and told Denver to go on while he and Dick had a talk. Dick could remember how serious Bruce was about it, and how he emphasized that it had to be a secret. "No one can know," he told the young boy. "It'll put you and the rest of us in danger."
Dick walked to the office that Bruce had spent most of his time in. "Hey Bruce?" He called out. "Bruce?" Walking in he saw the the desk chair Bruce sat at was empty, and there was a bookcase in the back of the room that was opened up to a concealed hallway. He must be in the cave, thought Dick. Walking over to the bookcase, he cautiously walked down the damp, dark hallway.
After a few minutes of walking around, Dick wandered into the cave, looking around for Bruce. Seeing his guardian at the computer, Dick walked over and stood next to Bruce. Bruce was in his normal day clothes, hunched over a file of papers, mumbling to himself every now and then. "Uhhhh, Bruce?" Dick softy spoke.
Bruce looked up with dark circles under his eyes and stubble across his chin. His eyes seemed to widen at Dicks sudden appearance and he shuffled the papers that he was looking at. "You need something bud?" Bruce questioned.
Dick twisted his hands together nervously and bit his bottom lip. "Well, can I talk to you for a moment?" Bruce seemed a little taken back, but nodded and sat down in a chair, nodding at Dick to sit in the one next to it. "Well," Dick stated again. "You know how you're looking for Tony Zucco?"
Bruce nodded and Dick continued. "Well, I want to help you catch him."
Bruce's face held no reaction at Dicks words. He just sat there, looking at the raven haired boy. "Please explain," Bruce gently replied.
Dick chewed his bottom lip, "well, the comic superheroes have sidekicks. And I feel like catching my families killer will... will.."
Bruce sighed. "Dick, we talked about this. No means no-"
Dick interrupted him. "Bruce, they were my family. I can't go on knowing the man who killed them is still roaming around with no punishment." He paused and his eyes drilled into Bruce's. "I thought you would understand."
Bruce placed his hand on Dicks shoulder. "I understand Dick, but-" he stopped speaking when those ocean blue eyes drilled into his dark eyes. Sighing, Bruce changed the direction of his sentence. "You can train with me, but I won't let you go out unless I think that you're ready. Can we shake on that?" Bruce stuck out his hand. Smiling widely, Dick shook the calloused hand.
"Oh, and Denver wants to be Batgirl."
