Bruce almost choked on his spit. "The, Child -Protection -Services?" He stuttered.
"Yes. If that wasn't clear the first time," Ms. Shrew growled. Mrs. Timson stepped forward and asked if they could come in for a moment. As the adults made their way to the couch, Dick and Denver ran off, giggling and whispering about how mean Ms. Shrew was. Bruce sat down on the couch, feeling very unprofessional in his tee shirt and baggy sweat pants he wore to bed.
"What can I do for you ladies?" Bruce muttered, not sure of how he felt on the situation. "Can I get you some water, coffee-"
"We aren't here to chit chat Mr Wayne," snapped Ms. Shrew. "We're here about the the boy."
Bruce flinched. "He has a name."
Mrs. Timson sighed. "Yes, Richard has been a most talked about topic with the CPS (child protection services) lately. I'm afraid due to the situation Richard has to come back with us."
The temperature of the room seemed to drop. Bruce shifted uncomfortably in his seat and Mrs. Timson continued. "Richard has no legal guardian of any sort. He had to come back with us until he gets adopted or someone takes full responsibility of him."
Bruce almost smiled. (Almost, but not quite :) "I'd be honored to adopt Richard."
Ms. Shrew smirked slightly. "I'm afraid that won't be possible." Bruce raised his eyebrow as she continued with her speech. "You see Mr. Wayne, with your playboy reputation and divorce, you are viewed as a irresponsible parent."
Bruce pointed his finger at the rude lady. "Now listen here-"
"No!" Ms. Shrew interrupted. "You listen. You have a very bad reputation around Gotham Mr. Wayne, and I do strongly believe that your own child can and should be taken away from you."
"Denver is my own blood and my child," he replied agitated. "You have no right to take her from me."
Mrs. Timson tried to speak up, but was shut down as Ms. Shrew continued. "I have paper work right here that states the Denver Grace Wayne can be taken from her father, Bruce Wayne if enough people agree that you aren't a good enough parent."
Bruce looked at the dark haired woman sitting next to Ms. Shrew. "Is this legal?" Mrs. Timson sadly nodded.
"I can't interject, Mr. Wayne, Freda has every right and enough evidence to take away Denver. I'm sorry," Mrs Timson said sadly. "But there's nothing I can do."
Then the sound of a knock on the door filled the room. Bruce got up and opened the door to revile someone who he knew could help him. "Commissioner Gordon, I have never been more glad to see you." Bruce lightly laughed and told Jim about the current situation.
"I think I can help," the commissioner grinned and walked into the room where he then sat down. "Ladies," he greeted, getting a smile from one and a scowl from the other. "What seems to be the problem?" He asked, even though he already knew.
Ms. Shrew started to go off about taking the children away, and after a while whipped out the papers she had made up. Bruce smirked as the commissioner told her, "unfortunately for you Ms. Shrew, I have the power to tell you that you can't take the children from Mr. Wayne."
Freda Shrew scrunched her nose in disgust. "Though you have a point, Commissioner Gordon, Richard can not be adopted by Mr. Wayne no matter what."
Jim Gordon raised his eyebrow. "And why is that?"
Ms. Shrew almost laughed as she said, "Mr Wayne was at the scene of the crime, and since he might have information or taken part in the crime, he cannot take full responsibility of young Richard." (That's all made up btw)
Gordon sighed as he realized that he had been beaten. He turned to Bruce and shrugged his shoulders, as if he was silently saying, we've been beat.
But then Gordon remembered something that would be in Bruce's favor. "Though Mr. Wayne can't adopt Richard, he can be his legal guardian until Richard gets adopted. Isn't that right, Ms. Shrew?" Freda scowled and Mrs. Timson smiled, taking joy in the fact that Freda Shrew had been shown up.
Mrs. Timson smiled at Bruce, "would you like to sign the papers to take responsibility of Richard Grayson?" Bruce smiled as he reached out for the papers, and looked at Gordon. Thank you, he mouthed to the officer, who nodded in reply.
Around the corner, Denver and Dick sat quietly, listening to the adults talk. When the conversation was over, Denver turned and looked at Dick, causing him to shift under her gaze. "What?" He asked, not sure what was happening.
Denver stood up and crossed her arms. "Jut because your going to be living here, doesn't mean I have to share my toys." (Man Denver you're such a stinker XD)
"I don't want to play with your girl toys anyway," scoffed Dick.
"Good." Denver stuck out her tongue and skipped away, leaving Dick to roll his eyes and follow her.
(So at first Denver was going to be a sweet, good little girl, but I changed my mind. The next chapter will be the first day of school, and its gonna be awesome. See you guys later!! Vote and comment :)
