Scavenge

I look ahead of me as I focus on the tall buildings of the city and I stop the car and turn towards Rainy.

"Come on we gotta head in on foot the road is jammed" I look at her and she nods with a serious face and I think about how badass she really is before jumping out of the car.

We start to walk down the highway passing by the many abandon cars some with doors open others closed and locked. I look into a car with a bullet hole in the front to see a rotted corpse and Bile rises in my throat from the stench. I quickly catch up to Rainy and try to forget what I saw.

"Any idea where we get these so called guns?" Rainy looks at me with a questioning face

"Well the military came here and made small camps for any survivors after the first days but they were mostly overrun so if were lucky there might be some there" I look at her with a calm expression but inside I knew we would be in for a hell of a fight for those weapons since there would be so many undead there.

We walk in silence the rest of the way till the first off ramp comes up and we see a make shift sign saying that the city has been overrun. We both look at each other with scared expressions and then head down the off ramp towards a group of large yellow and white tents in the distance.

After walking for what felt like a day we arrived at the camp and as I had said it had been overrun. The gates were laying on the ground and body's were scattered everywhere some already showing bones from decomposing.

"Stick with me" I look at Rainy and she nods and we both walk in looking around at the destroyed camp but before long an Infected in an military suit stumbles towards us his one arm looking chewed to the bone and his jaw hanging in shreds on his face. 

We both raise our guns and shoot at the same time hitting the same spot between the eyes. As the infected crumples to the floor we look at each other in awe before heading to the freshly killed infected and we grab his guns putting them in our bags before we split up looking for more.

I walk around a corner and stop dead in my tracks at the sight I see. A huge pile of burnt bodies and next to them is body bags filled with corpses all looking to be shot in the head before turning. I snap out of my shocked state and turn to see an infected lunging towards my neck but the next thing I see is a bullet go through the side of his head and he falls to the ground.

"Holy shit!" Rainy grabs me with concern in her eyes and I then try to block her view from the pile but she sees it and puts her face against my chest and starts to cry.

"Come on lets leave there is nothing left here but rotting corpses" I guide her towards the entrance and when we step out I feel relieved once again.

"Let's go hom-" I get cut off as bullets hit the ground next to us and I dive for cover followed by Rainy and before we know it we are pinned behind a barricade and bullets keep on hitting around us.

"Rainy when I say run I want you to go to the car and don't look back....RUN!" I stand up and shoot back and she sprints away towards the highway and I look away for a split second before turning back and then I feel the bullet hit me and I go down slowly bleeding out until I see nothing but darkness.
