The Void

I watch as Rainy splits of from the rest of the group and runs to me and practically pushes the medic aside and at that moment I knew this was real and I felt like all the guilt of leaving had been left behind.

"Oh god your covered in blood and your so pale!" She looks scared but there was also something else there was it anger or was it forgiveness.

"That's what....a bullet...to your rib cage will do...." I spoke with a very rough voice and I had trouble talking when I was coughing up blood still.

"Why did you have to leave us?" As she spoke I still herd the battle going on behind us but it sounded much more calmer as it did before.

"I don't know what I was thinking I'm sorry.....I saw William and Ashley how did that happen?" I look at her and she sighs.

"They attacked them when they were on watch we didn't know where they went until we heard the cars speeding off but then we tracked them to a house and I'm guessing you guys were there because they were dead and so was everyone else and the gate was left wide open" She finished and then looked up and smiled a bit before reaching out a hand for me to take.

I am confused about the smile until I take her hand and turn around everybody is cheering and pumping there fist in the air as they stand over everything that has been killed. I then watch as Alpha and Two men bring out a bandit from behind the cars. I watch as Alpha puts the bandit on his knees and raises a gun up and then aims it at the back of his head.

"For the dead! For our own! and for the future!" Alpha chants and everybody chants with him including me and Rainy before he pulls the trigger and the bandit flops to the ground blood pulling under his head and dripping from the forehead.

Soon I see everyone heading towards the trees and towards home. But before anybody goes farther Alpha stops and looks around.

"I have noticed more new faces and I have been informed they helped us fight today and with that I wish that they would stay and join us fully seeming we have lost some of our best fighters today we need more" Alpha looks at my friends and One steps forward.

"My name is One and I represent our group and I say we will join" He stands tall and strong and for once I notice he isn't the same teenager we had met at the beginning of the apocalypse he now has a beginning of a beard and looks stronger than he used to.

"Thank you friend, lets go home!" Alpha leads the way and everyone follows and as we walk Beta helps Rainy with me since I could barely walk from my wounds. I notice One giving me a look and I see that he looks concerned and I nod to him showing that I'm fine but he just turns away with a quick and brisk nod.

"What is wrong with One?" I look at Rainy and she gives me a sidelong glance.

"He hasn't been the same since you left him and Mark at the store...I think he thought you died or something" Rainy looked rather sad and I knew she wasn't telling me everything but I knew I didn't need to worry about that right now since I was basically still on the verge of death.

Once we arrived at the cave I was forced to crawl through the gap making the pain in my wound worse. Once I got inside I sat against one of the cave walls and lay there watching the camp do there things. I watched as people trained to one side and I watched as Alpha and Beta talked about something. Lastly, I watched as Rainy looked for me and finally spotted me. She then sat next to me feeling my forehead as I didn't even notice I was sweating till now.

"Your burning up!" she sounded more worried than I have ever seen her before and I smiled at her.

"It's nothing just a fever...." I was noticing how hard it was becoming to breath and I started to notice that people were crowding around some worried others watching with confusion.

"Move!" A medic pushed his way forward and checked my wound his eyes widened when he removed the bandage from my wound. 

"The wound has already become infected!" He sounded surprised and worried.

"Alex help the medic take him to med bay make sure you keep an eye on him" Alpha and everyone's voices started to fade away and I was left with darkness and silence.

---4 days later---

My eyes open but I can't see anything until they adjust to the dark gloom of the back cave they called the med bay. I checked my wound seeing it had been stitched together and I figured I would have a huge scar after it healed. I noticed that I had feeling in my legs again so I stood making sure I didn't hit my head on the rocky roof above me. I then noticed I only had pants on but no shirt.

"Hello..." I tried to speak but my voice was very raspy and felt like my throat was on fire.

I looked around and saw a pool of water coming out of the ground so I didn't care and started to drink the cool refreshing water. I then felt as if someone was watching me and I turned seeing not one but two people Alpha and Beta. I instantly stood up and looked at them with the best awake expression I could make even though I felt like shit and was very tired I still tried. 

"Good to see you awake" Alpha sounded quite surprised and I knew that I must have been in bad shaped if people believed I would die.

"Thanks....How many days have I been out for?" I look at him with tired eyes letting it show that I wasn't at one hundred percent yet.

"You've been out for 4 days and me and Alpha have talked about something important" Beta sounded relieved seeing I was fine.

"Beta and I talked about you being 3rd in command since Alex said he didn't want to be so do you except the rank of Gamma?" Alpha looked a bit mad seeming he would probably pick Alex over me but I knew he didn't have much of a choice.

"Sure" I watch as Beta throws me a black shirt and I take it and put it on.

"Welcome Gamma" Beta and Alpha walk out and I follow them and step out of the Med bay and see everyone there waiting.

"Gamma! Gamma!" Everyone begins to cheer and I start smile again.

This is the beginning of something new but then I remember something else. Winter is on it's way and it's bound to bring trouble.

I know for the past couple chapter's there really hasn't been that many Zombies or really a detailed struggle believe me it's coming guys just hang in there! 

Also the last chapter is the next one!
