The Void

The Ambush; Part Two

We all watched as the flames from explosions shot into the air and gunshots rung out. The radio started to erupt into orders being called out and gunfire with faint yells and screams of agony.

"We have to get down there!" I hop down from the rock I had been sitting on and landed on the flat ground below and I started to sprint towards the fighting.

"Wait come back!" Alex shouts but his voice is very faint as I sprint faster through the woods jumping over logs and swerving around thorn bushes. 

I then feel as if I'm going faster but then I notice I'm falling and I focus again as pain shoots through me as I fall down a slope and land in a stream of water. 

"Crap..." I cough up blood since I had bit down on my lip when I fell and now I noticed that one of my legs had no feeling and the other had shear pain piercing through it as I tried to stand.

My radio was filled with voices and people calling that they had been hit by bullets. Then I heard a groan and looked at the bank in-front of me seeing two infected stumbling towards me. I took in a quick breath and pushed myself up and started to limp towards the gunshots noticing that the infected were at a similar pace as me and I became more relaxed knowing they wouldn't catch me. I pull myself over the slope and onto the road and I then look noticing that about 200m ahead of me there were people taking cover behind cars and logs. Some were trading shots with unseen threats that were hiding up the road behind cars blocked by flaming cars I assumed were the ones that exploded from the convoy.

I began running noticing my one foot stinging everytime I stepped and I didn't care knowing I had to help as much as I could. Just before I reached the log bullets started to hit the ground around me and I ducked covering my head and trying to fire back but then I felt a bullet hit my side tearing open my skin and flesh and ripping through my rib bone located there. I instantly fell to the ground and groaned in pain clutching the wound.

"Retreat! Fall back!" I look up seeing Alpha and his group running quickly followed by Beta and her men and I notice some of them falling to the ground and then laying motionless. I soon notice the bullets flying past me some connecting with the retreating allies. Just as I see everyone run past me I feel two hands grab me and start dragging me. I look up seeing Xavier dragging me to farther cover and Beta firing back at them trying to buy Xavier and me time.

I reach into my pocket and start firing my pistol hitting two heads behind a far car and watching them drop to the ground. I hear my gun click empty and start to black out knowing I have lost to much blood.

"Hold on don't die!" Xavier drags me behind cover where one of the medics starts to try and stop the bleeding as Xavier and everyone else including Beta returns shots at the incoming Bandits and now Infected. First only a couple tumble out of the bushes but then a huge group of them start to split up heading towards both sounds of gunshots. I sit against the log knowing I'm going to die as the infected near everyone begins to panic still holding there ground. I close my eyes accepting that I'm going to die and images flash through my head rewinding what has happened since the apocalypse started and the last image I picture is me chasing Rainy during the festival the night of the apocalypse.

(Flashback)

"Were running low on supplies how will we survive when winter hits in the next months!" William looks at Aiello and Mark while I sit in the background with Rainy and One

"We will find a way we always have" Mark says looking at William with a calm face 

"How about we find some supplies we could send a team out?" Aiello suggest the plan looking at William.

"If it were me I would say the hell with it and send three teams out to find supplies"  One whispers to me and I laugh a bit.

(Flashback Two)

I watch as the sun raises above the horizon and I see Rainy laying next to me asleep as we sit on the edge of the beach shore watching the sunset. I notice that this was before the apocalypse seeing that we were in normal cloths and had no weapons and were actually enjoying ourselves.

(End Flashbacks)

I open my eyes and seeing everyone fighting the infected with melee weapons rather than bullets. I then look at the far end of the road and see something I thought I would never see again...It was Rainy and One followed by the Maverick and Mark along with Alex, Burns and Nick. 

I sighed with relief as I didn't know if I was hallucinating from blood loss or if it was real but it was a sight for sore eyes.
