As I walk through the forest flanked by Beta and her men I start to feel uncomfortable as we head deeper into there territory. I look at the ground noticing that the dirt has started to become harder and the more we walk it turns to stones and finally I look up seeing a mountain infront of us and I look at Beta confused. one of the guards walks up to the side of the mountain and removes the bush to reveal a hole the size of a large box.
"Follow my movements so that way you don't set off the traps" Beta looks at me and I nod following her as we swerve around oddly piled leaves and snares.
I follow her through the hole and then I stand and look around in amazement as we stand at the entrance to a tiny hide away.
"Welcome to my home" Beta looks at me with a calm face before pulling me to the side so her men could come in.
"How did you find it?" I look at her still stunned
"Alpha found it not me" She then points to a man with a white beard talking to several other people dressed in gillie suits. He then turns towards us and starts to walk over to us.
"Who is this?" He looks at me with a puzzled face then looks at Beta with confusion.
"I found him in the store we were stuck in...he decided to come with us" Beta stands with her arms at her side in a serious stance as if trying to mimic a stone statue.
"Good we need more men the damn bandits took Rover's squad for hostages and they are probably interrogating them right this moment" His puzzled face turn to a pissed one when he spoke of the Militia or as he called them bandits.
"I'll send Delta's team out to get them back" Beta looked at him and he shook his head.
"No, I need you to take some men and get them...I trust you more than Delta to get this done" He then turns and walks away without a word more.
"Shit...who will I take my men are tired and the only others I could take would be Alex and Xavier" Beta muttered to herself and was shaking her head back and forth obviously seeing how important this was.
"I'll come" I look at her with a smile and she looks back at me with serious eyes.
"This won't be easy and you might not come back" She looked at me waiting for an answer, So I gave her what I could think of.
"I don't care anymore it gives me something to do rather then end my own life stupidly" I look at her with cold eyes and I suddenly remember that Rainy will be worried sick of where I was.
"Meet me outside I'll be there in five"
---15 Minutes later---
As we walk up to a small overlook I see a glimpse of the house we were about to attack. It looks to be a house that used to be owned by someone wealthy but now it looked trashed and bodies lay around the gates since the Bandits had killed Infected who had tried to get in.
"Xavier you take Alex and take out the guards in the front and the poolside, I'll take the roof with him" Beta signals for me to follow and I do heading through the dense brush towards the fence of the house.
"Climb onto the car and then the roof...be careful don't set off the car alarm" Beta then ran towards the car and gently climbed it and hop up to the roof. I followed what she did but when I leaped I couldn't clear the gap and I slowly slid down the roof and fell down over the side landing with a thud.
"You alright?" Beta calls down to me in a quiet voice and I nod showing a thumbs up.
"Be careful find a way to get up to the second floor and meet me there....don't get seen" She goes without another word and I pull myself up noticing that everytime I step on my right foot a pain shoots through it and I know that I have injured it badly. I keep moving till I get to the far wall and turn just in time to see a man fall from the wall with a head wound and I know Alex or Xavier had taken him out. I keep moving till I make it inside the basement and stumble towards the stairs and before I start making my ascent the door swings open at the top and a man in fatigues looks at me.
"Hey!" He shoots at me with a silenced pistol and I duck heading towards the other side of the basement.
I pull out my knife and wait till the man gets to the last step and I throw the knife and the man turns just in time to take the knife in the face. As I watch him fall going limp as he hits the ground I hurry and grab the knife climbing the stairs faster. I meet another Bandit at the top but stab him in the gut and then the throat ending him quickly.
I then run up the stairs to the second floor not caring if i'm being chased till I reach the top and see three men with guns pointed at me.
"Stop righ-" Just as the ma almost finished shots fired through the door killing all three of them.
The door gets pushed open and Beta shows her face beckoning me towards her and then she heads back inside the door so I hurry towards her. Once I get inside I see her standing at the window with a shocked expression and I run to see what has happened.
I look out and almost puke at the sight of what I see and Its like a train wreck where you want to avoid looking but you can't.
Alex and Xavier are both outside looking at the mess of bodies and infected. I can tell that these men were Rover and his squad. Three bodies hung from post with there insides hanging out and I saw they were moving and I knew they had turned and below them was a small group of infected. Then I scanned the group of moving bodies and my heart dropped and I slumped to the ground struggling to not scream in horror. In the mix of the bodies was two faces I didn't wanna see and it made me turn away. It was or had been William and Ashley two people from my group that I thought I would never see again and now I knew that leaving them may have meant that I let them die.
"Kill them and then cut them down" Beta said into the radio and I knew she sounded defeated and then all I heard was the sound of bullets being shot at the infected.
---1 hour later---
I sit on the roof watching the sun sink below the horizon and I watch as Alex and Xavier secure the house for the night since we all decided it would be best to stay the night and not travel after dark. I then looked at the courtyard and saw the bodies laying there and I began to be sick again afraid I would lose my dinner which had been a little peanut butter bar.
"Hey..." Beta sits next to me and I don't answer herw
"Grace" Beta blurts out and I look at her with confusion
"It's my name" She says quietly and I nod
"My name is Jax"
"Well nice to meet you Jax" She smiles weakly as if she didn't want to knowing what happened today, I just laughed and she looked at me crazy so I just smiled.
This world is way different than we thought.
