As we near the base I start to see smoke gathering in the sky and I start to worry seeing it coming from the same place as the base.
"Speed up I see smoke!" I look at Ryker with an intense expression and he nods and we speed towards the camp and as we get closer the smoke grows thicker and looks black against the bright blue sky.
Just as we round the corner to the camp we spot a group of infected crowded around a horse from the stables and then we look ahead to see a large group pushing into the blown open gates of the town.
"Shit!" Ryker kicks the ground in frustration and Sky just looks away from the scene.
"I'm going in whether I die or not I need to know if my friends died or not" I start to walk towards the gate when a hand grabs me from behind.
"Look there is no need going in there getting munched on without a little help" Ryker nods at Sky and she nods back and before long I see Sky dragging a dead infected towards us from the treeline.
"Here Rub the guts on you it will mask your scent" Sky instantly starts rubbing the infected's insides on her and I begin to think she has done this countless times. Soon I begin to rub it on me, at first it was disgusting and smelling of all kinds of rotten stuff but I began to forget the smell and the disgusting feel and began to think of my friends.
"Ok follow me and stay close" Sky lead the way and we followed soon we were walking with the horde and I began to feel nervous as an Infected sniffed me and then kept walking.
Once we got inside I wanted to crumble to the ground once I looked around seeing all of the burning houses and the blood covered sidewalks and streets with the many infected swarming the fires. Soon I found myself heading towards the Meeting hall and I saw that most of the infected were distracted b the flames and I started to run not caring if the infected gave chase.
I collapsed at the Meeting hall and Sky and Ryker were gasping for air beside me. I looked at them seeing they were looking around obviously scared and worried for there lives which were at stake. I got up and gently pushed open the doors to the meeting hall and I stepped in and stopped dead in my tracks.
In front of me bodies were scattered around the room and I fell to the ground as I see some faces I know. I walk over to the front of the room and look at two bodies all sporting head wounds. I look at Aiello and Havana and start to feel guilty.
"I'm sorry......" I whisper the two words before heading into the back kitchen slightly aware of the Ryker and Sky looking at me with shocked faces seeing all the bodies.
I search through the kitchen till I arrive in the canned food closet and open it seeing 6 pairs of eyes starring at me and I almost smile but I don't when I notice people I know.
"Your alright!" One and Rainy get up and hug me and then from behind them is Mark, Maverick, William, and a women named Ashley who is the last remaining cook from the meeting hall.
"Do you guys know if anyone else is alive?" I look at them and all of them look down and I know the answer.
"Ok well we need a way out because the main gate is clogged with infected, any ideas?" I look at them and William head shoots up instantly.
"There are bolt cutters here in the back closet we could probably cut the fence behind the meeting hall" William says in a very quiet voice which is different from his normal bossy leadership roles voice.
"Ok lets go!" I nod walking towards the door but before I open the door someone stops me.
"Jax who are they?" One looks at Ryker and Sky and everyone begins to notice them and they all become instantly alarmed.
"There Ryker and Sky....I met them when I was....gone" I decided to not say that I was shot even though I'm pretty sure Rainy would have told One.
I then grab the bolt cutters from William's hands and open the door and look both ways seeing nothing so I quickly start cutting the fence. I stop cutting once I here rustling in the bushes and I look up seeing an Infected walking towards the fence. I wait till it sticks it's hands through the fence and I stick my knife into its eye. The body slowly crumples to the ground and I begin to cut the fence again soon making a decent sized crawl space for us to get out. I then gesture for them to go and they all start crawling through. Before long it is just me and Rainy and I nod watching her go through but then I here something behind me and I look seeing an Infected rushing towards me from the kitchen. I instantly shove the door shut and start through the hole by now everyone has noticed what was happening and I feel two sets of hands grab me and pull me through the hole.
"that was close...thanks guys" I look up seeing One and Maverick and I become stunned at Maverick of all people helping me.
"Listen I'm sorry for being a dickhead before this all started and I'm sorry about what I did..." Maverick looks at the ground and I nod saying nothing but I know he understands.
"Um not to be rude but can you guys save the whole sorry thing for later because we have a bunch of rotters coming!" Mark says in a joking tone but he sounds scared at the same time.
"Yeah lets get away from here" I nod and push into the dark looking forest and everyone follows.
I begin to feel afraid as we venture into the unknown and we leave behind what safety we had before. It then hits me...we were now at war with an unknown threat and we now were homeless like everyone else in the apocalypse and like everyone else we were scared of what we didn't know was awaiting us.
