Chapter 1

Kyojuro Rengoku thinks he's dreaming when he wakes up on a bed.

He know's he's supposed to be dead. He said his farewells to Tanjirou-kun, to his companions, told him what he wanted to be told, and after that, he remembers the sensation of being picked up? Running.....Sharp biting wind. A cliff. Drowning in a river. His head hurts. He knows he will remember it once he's had more rest, or regained his bearings. After all, he was a pillar. Concussions were nothing.

He looks around wearily, as exhaustion wears down on his bones. He hasn't felt this exhausted in....forever. His left eye was gouged out, and his organs pummeled into mush. Or that was what it was supposed to be. There is the faint sensation of dulled sharp pain in his gut, and another in his chest, while his left eye, he couldn't open for now.

He runs a hand across his where his left eye should be, and finds it bandaged. The soft fabric is rough against his fingers, but it is a reminder that he was still alive, and that someone had saved him. He held a slim hope that he could still see through his left eye.

He moves his hands and his arms, stretching them as he looks around. His bed is right by a window in a wooden cabin, which is warm, and he can feel the faint heat from the small fire burning in the room. He cocks his head at that. It was still burning beneath an obsidian shelf, located in a stone fireplace. The scent of wood is heavy, as is the faint scent of burning firewood, a hint of pine and cherry.

Was he dead?

The fire glows and crackles softly in the room, as two other lamps light the room up. The bedside table has a jug of water and a cup, and next to it, is a desk and it has its top filled with bandages, a tray of needles and thread, as well as the sharp scent of disinfectant. His sword is nowhere in sight, but he has not been restrained.

He doubts so.

Well, the only thing he could do was to get up and explore. He pulls off the blanket, as he wills his limbs to move.

The problem is, he can't feel his legs.
