"That's still pretty impressive! You could save a lot of people with that ability!"
Trying his best to cut through the tension, shock and surprise in the air, while he himself was also trying to overcome his own surprise and surprisingly, some deep seated disappointed which pooled in his gut like snow fall. Kyojuro smiled at Fuyuko, who only gave him a sad smile in return.
"It's not that simple. Everyone needs me to stop it or bring on a weather. I've only made it this far on sheer luck and by warning others when a disaster was about to happen... I have merely lied and given everyone excuses and shreds of false hope all this time,"
Nobu is silent, and it isn't helping the situation.
"Nobu-san, you understand this right? I cannot be what the people want me to be," Her eyes hold immense sorrow, and yet she cannot cry. She's given up, and accepted her role to be a liar even with the perpetual threat of being discovered.
And she would be treated far harshly than how Yuukionna had been in the legends.
"Then it's ever more the reason for you to leave and run away. I'll help you, Fuyuko, if you so wish to leave this village, and Kyojuro-kun, I don't think you would mind, right?" Nobu speaks, conviction and determination in his voice like that of a loyal soldier serving his queen.
Fuyuko's eyes widen.
Then there's the sound of breaking glass.
Nobu looks around, before he tells him to look after her, and with his hand on his holster, exits the small corner they were seated in.
"Um...how should I address you?"
"You can call me..." It was weird for her to call him by his actual name since she was younger than him, but if he told her his fake name it would be telling her a lie, which would be enforcing the wrong values given what had happened before.... "Rengoku-san! Or Aniki!"
He beams at her, as she looks into his eyes and smiles.
Then the smile falls.
"Rengoku-san, how did you get rid of the cold?" Her voice is filled with a gentle curiosity, as Kyojuro looked at her, slightly puzzled as to what she meant, but deep down, was hoping that she was not referring to what he thought it was.
"The cold?"
"The cold in your left eye. Did you burn it away?"
She- She was referring to her.
To the snow demon.
How did she know? Kyojuro's eyes widen, as Fuyuko's own grey and white ringed irses stare into his own, before she turns away and back to her ramen. Shock and surprise races through his veins freezing his limbs and plunging him into sheer panic for a moment.
"Uhm...nevermind. Please pretend I never said that," She resumes eating her noodles, which have gone cold by this point of time.
Fuyuko is jerked back and pulled out of the room, but Kyojuro was faster.
His hands tightly grip onto the arm pulling Fuyuko out, as he uses his free right hand to pull Fuyuko back, tightening his grip around the foreign hand, the human ski, hard enough that he can feel the bones in the wrist under heavy pressure.
"Let go of her."
He gazed into the eyes of the young muscular young man who glares into his soul.
"And who are you? To take Fuyuko away from the temple without permission?" The young man's defiant gaze challenges his own, refusing to release Fuyuko's arm as Kyojuro sends back his own burning, steely gaze.
