He dreams of a world where his mother still lived, and his past.
It's a soft comfort when he's aware of his own predicament in reality, and that he was lucid dreaming.
The scent of wisteria is that of a protector, as his mother holds his brother's hand, as well as his fathers while he strolls behind them, and his father calls him to hurry up.
Small bells and chimes ring in the distance, the sound smooth as the echo in the wind. As wisteria blooms all around them, he can smells its soft, muted sweet scent, and he smiles.
Sunlight is warm on his skin. He runs his hand by the rows of wisteria flowers, as they visit a shinto shrine in the midst of spring.
He has to run up to his family to catch up to them, but it makes him feel alive. The sunlight is gentle on his skin, like warm water over his skin, bathing him and enriching him as it was neither too glaring, but instead, comforting. It was a cloak which clung to his skin, like the warm embers of a fire.
"Kyojurou, make a wish," His mother smiles at him patiently as the four of them are now holding tanabata papers, standing beneath a bamboo tree. His father hoists Senjuro up on his shoulders, and his brother ties his note to the tree. His father then proceeded to set his brother down on the ground gently, as he reached out and ruffled Senjuro's hair with a hand.
His brother then offered him a small rectangular slip of paper, strangely colder than everything else around him, but he smiles at his brother as he takes the plain white piece of paper.
He glances at it, and on it, a single, grey eye with the faint outline of a snowflake, along with a demon's pupil stares back at him.
And with that the dream unravels.
Explanation
- This entire dream sequence alludes to how the demon is tainting or corrupting his memories, and his hopes and dreams to every return to becoming a human. Wisteria and sunlight are prominently featured, and the use of tanabata papers in which people commonly wrote good wishes on the paper and hung them on the trees as part of the festival.
In this case, his wish is no longer a wish, but instead a plague on him, a harsh reminder that the demon was still there, waiting.
A/N: Some dream sequences will have shorter, or much longer chapters.
