Chapter 23: Back To Strangers

We arrived at the cabin. Colby was holding my hand and I was laying my head on his shoulder. The car stopped and I opened my eyes. Colby was rubbing the back of my hand with his thumb. I smiled and looked up at him. "Let's go inside!" Olivia seemed excited as she yelled out. Colby helped me out of the car and went to the trunk. "Are you ever going to let me carry my bags?" I giggled at the end of my sentence. Colby's smiled and shook his head, "Never" I rolled my eyes as he picked up both of our bags. I fixed the strap on my backpack and followed everyone inside. My mom motioned for us to follow. "Colby and Nate this is your room" oh no Colby and Nate sharing a room was not going to end well. Colby rolled his eyes and put his bag in his room. I took my bag from him and followed my mom into the room across the hall. "Olivia, Rose, and Azaria this is your room." We nodded and walked inside. I claimed the single bed while Rose and Olivia took the bunk bed. Olivia took the bottom bunk. Rose was Olivia's younger sister. She was 15 and actually super pretty. I pushed the suitcase under my bed as Olivia started talking, "Colby and Nate are going to kill each other." I nodded, "No doubt." I sat on my bed and pulled the charger out of my backpack and plugged in my phone. I sighed as the messages and notifications started rolling in. I put my phone down on the bedside table and walked out of the room. I went into the boys room. Colby was laying on his phone in the bed. "Where's Nate?" I looked at Colby and he seemed mad. "Wouldn't you like to know" he growled out the words. "What are you so mad about?" He put his phone down and sat up. "Nate told me everything. Why didn't you tell me you were still friends with the person who got to do everything to you first?". Was he seriously mad. "I'm not gonna argue with you Colby!" I huffed. "You even already cheated on me with him!" His voice started getting louder. "It's not cheating if we aren't really dating! Remember the CONTRACT Cole?" He looked at me with hurt in his eyes. I shook my head and walked out. I slammed his door behind me. I went outside the cabin and breathed in the fresh air. It was a nice change from the city air. I decided to go on a walk. I started walking towards the trail. I don't know how long I walked but by the time I got back to the cabin it was dark. I could hear laughter coming from inside. Colby was sitting on the porch with his head in his hands. "Colby?" I had calmed down more after our little argument but I was still mad. I wonder if he cooled down. His head jerked up at the sound of my voice. "Hey... I think we need to talk..." I nodded and sat next to him. "I was thinking maybe we should slow down. We have the contract and everything but I feel like we kinda rushed into things. I was wondering if we could maybe just be friends..." I sighed. It hurt but it was just another heartbreak. Instead of fighting for us all I said was, "Yeah." He nodded. "We should get some rest we are probably gonna go to the lake tomorrow," I said it as an excuse to go back inside and get away from Colby. It was intoxicating being around him I love him. Maybe it wasn't a mutual feeling...
