when Rhi got home after ALMOST forgetting about that English assignment that she had to take, all she could ever think about was that stupid party that Amber was forcing her to attend. she was only doing it because she wanted to get out from her comfort zone and possibly socialize, but now she was on the verge of changing her mind.

some hours passed, and her mom came home, but Rhi had already eaten her tofu, fruit, and asparagus dinner and had already fallen asleep in her own troubled haze.

it was friday morning. the day of the party.

Rhi got up with a groan, her usual routine, then got out of bed and took a quick shower. she began to blow dry her hair when her phone started to ring. it was Amber.

"Amber? what is it?"

"are you excited about tonight? i sure am! oooh, i can't wait to pick out an outfit with you after school today! it'll be so fun, and i'm so glad you're doing this."

Rhi sighed. "yeah, me too, i guess. so did you get an official time for the party yet?"

"uh huh, it starts around 7ish."

oh thank God. "oh, awesome! i was hoping that would be the time, or else my mom wouldn't be able to take me. ugh, i really need to get my own car."

Rhi currently only had her permit, and it was only a matter of a couple months before she was able to get her license so she could drive herself wherever she wanted. for now, she had little freedom.

"i know, i totally get the struggle. i'll be getting mine sometime next month."

after talking for a couple more minutes, Rhi hung up and continued to blow dry her hair. once she was done with that, she pulled on some light grey skinny jeans and a loose white t-shirt that went just barely above her knees. for shoes, she decided to wear some black Vans, then grabbed her phone and backpack and went downstairs.

Jenny was talking on the phone with someone while gathering a to-go breakfast for both her and Rhi. "yes Genevieve, i know. i'll make sure to bring them today," she said with a laugh. "ok, well i'll see you when i get there, ive gotta run. bye!" then she hung up and smiled when she saw Rhi. "good morning! i heated up some breakfast sandwiches for the two of us." she slid one over to Rhi across the marble countertop, and Rhi caught it before it hit the floor.

"hey mom, do you think you'd be able to... take me to a party tonight around 7?"

Jenny nearly spat out her coffee. "o-oh! sure sweetie, i can see if i can get off a few minutes earlier. this is so exciting! i'm so happy that you're finally getting out and going to parties!" she gave her daughter a tight hug, and Rhi snorted. "i've been to parties before, mom. it's just been a while."

"i know i know, but this is still a huge leap for you! high school parties are SO fun, just you wait! but you cannot drink."

Rhi had a feeling that her mom would start acting like a buzzkill. it was just a known parent fact whenever it came to high school parties.

"well we better get going. i heard you have a couple tests today, and i've got to bring something to a coworker."

Rhi nodded, then gathered her things and followed her mom out the door and locked it behind her. the outside air was chilly and refreshing, and there was a hint of rain on the forecast as well. this was Rhi's favorite weather; nothing could top both cold and rain in the same day.

Jenny drove at a quick yet leisurely pace to the school, and when they got there, Rhi was thankful that they were early. "ok sweetie, i'll see you after school! have a good day."

"thanks mom, see ya."

she walked away from the car and stepped into the school, immediately locating Amber in the Commons area.

"hey Rhi!" she exclaimed happily. she then turned to the crowd of popular kids that still swarmed her. "ok guys, i'll see you later at the party!" they all walked away and Amber grinned at Rhi. "this is going to be hella fun. no parents, no rules, endless fun..."

"yeah, about that. my mom said i couldn't drink."

"oh come on! you don't have to listen to your mom all the time. i didn't mean that in a harsh way, but sometimes my parents tell me what to do all the time and i've just had enough of it. so if i were you, i'd do the same."

Rhi shrugged. they began to walk to first period with the everlasting gossip of popular kid drama.

as the day wore on at a quick pace, Rhi continued to find the thought of the party lingering in her mind. she was okay with it, but a little nervous since she had never been to a high school party before. she'd only been to a middle school party years ago, and probably another one before that, she couldn't remember which one it was.

Amber had been to at least enough to last a lifetime, so that helped to calm Rhi's nerves.

seventh period arrived, and Rhi continued to think about the party. why had this day gone by so fast?

Rhi had to take a quick restroom break, sneaking her phone with her so she could possibly talk to Amber. she texted her, but Amber responded with a call. "hey, what's up? i'm listening to this boring lecture in physics right now; i'm glad you called me." heh, not surprising that Amber would call someone during class.

"yeah, i'm just feeling a little weird about the party. i don't know about it anymore..."

"no, you have to go! please? i'll be with you every step of the way," she said in a quiet voice, probably worried her teacher would hear.

Rhi didn't respond for a moment. "i mean yeah, but only if you're constantly there with me, because i don't k-"

"oh shit, sorry Rhi, i have to go. i'll talk to you later after seventh, alright?" then she hung up, and Rhi sat alone for a moment in the stall before heading back to class.

hope you guys like the story so far :)) and if you see ANY mistakes, please comment on that because sometimes i just KNOW that i'll accidentally enter in some first person stuff (i'm really used to first person perspective), and typos and all that jazz.
