19; prep for the first shift

hey everyone, sorry about the poor updating. i've been busy with christmas, and just a week ago before i began my break, i was caught up with midterms ;)

but i'm back now, and ready to update some more !

"hey Kassidy, what's going on...?"

"ok listen, don't freak out on me, but i just realized that both you and my brother's first shifts are coming up. like, in a matter of two days."

and Rhi felt like this was the perfect moment to freak out.

"oh no no no. i wasn't expecting it to happen so soon! oh Kassidy, what are we gonna do? i don't know if i can handle this..."

"yes rhi, you can. now let me explain. i will help both you and jace with your first shifts, because i will be undergoing my second shift that same night. but we have to move to a highly secluded area, or else we could all do some serious harm. and we need to get prepped."

rhi nodded quickly. "ok, s-so how are we going to do this?"

"you can only eat meat for the next two days. only meat, you got that? because if you eat other things, then that will only deplete your strength during your first shift, and trust me, you will need ALL the strength you can get during your first shift. that's how i had to do it too."

rhi found herself staring at her reflection in the mirror, gently stroking the barely visible white streak in her hair. "alright. as long as you'll be there with us, i t-think i can do this."

"that's the spirit! i was pretty scared too, but you know what i found out? you don't become an actual wolf during your first shift; you just become this half beast thing with a wolf's head, body, and tail, but you keep your human limbs. it sounds creepy when you think about it, but i'm sure it's nothing compared to turning into an actual wolf."

"wow, that does sound creepy. and you're saying that i'm gonna look like that in two days?"

"yup, you better believe it. ok, i have to go. i already told jace the whole thing, and we're on our way to the store to get more meat. i suggest you do the same. bye!"

"bye," rhi murmured, then hung up and let her mind conjure up half wolf, half human beasts...

after convincing jenny nearly twelve times to buy meat at the grocery store, she finally went and came back twenty minutes later with only two steaks. that definitely wouldn't be enough for rhi, but it was the best she could do without making her mom think she was a total meat-freak now.

and after jenny cooked it and served it at dinner, it only made rhi's stomach growl more.

"wow, you sure finished that steak fast. since when did you get such a fierce appetite?" jenny asked as soon as rhi finished up her steak in less than five minutes.

"oh, i don't know. i guess i'm growing." rhi got up and washed her plate off before putting it in the dishwasher. "can i go upstairs now? i've uh... got some homework to do."

Jenny nodded, and Rhi went right upstairs and began to tell Kassidy about her dilemma.

"oh shït, that is not good. but hey, we can still share with you! there shouldn't be any harm in that, you're just gonna have to figure out how you can get over here and grab some meat for yourself."
