Rhi continued to wince as the pain only strengthened, and she wondered when she would be able to go back to class so she wouldn't get into trouble. hopefully Mrs. Owens hadn't noticed her abscence for too long yet.
but it was only a matter of time.
Rhi quickly left the stall, fixed her hair in the mirror, then hurriedly walked back out into the hallway and made it back to class 45 seconds later. luckily Mrs. Owens had been too caught up in her lecture to care that Rhi had been gone for nearly 15 minutes, and class droned on until the bell rang for 2nd period.

once the day was nearly over, and Rhi was just about to finish up some art in 7th period, Kassidy came in extra late. "hey Rhi, i have to tell you something. come home with me after class so you, me, and Jace can discuss those weird dreams you've been having."
"u-uh, i don't think i can today," Rhi said slowly. the pain from the claws on her belly kept throbbing, and it was a miracle that she was still at school right now. and as much as she wanted to hear what Kassidy and Jace had to say, it just seemed a little too far out for Rhi.
"oh come on, what's the matter? you don't look so good..." Kassidy said after a moment, eyes narrowing. Rhi sighed and discreetly lifted up the one half of her shirt under the table, and Kassidy gasped. "oh my gosh! look at those things! no wonder you look so uncomfortable."
the bell finally rang not too long after that, and Rhi walked with Kassidy to her Jeep. "damn, i've never seen anything like that before... we'll have to take a better look at it when we get back to my house."
10 or 15 minutes later, they arrived at the house, and Kassidy literally had to help Rhi out of the car, and she lay down on the couch almost immediately. Rhi felt so weak and feeble... what the hell was the matter with her?
"hey Jace, i need you to come here for a second," Kassidy called into the foyer, and Jace appeared a few moments later. "what's up? oh, hey Rhi." then he gasped when Rhi slowly lifted up the hem of her shirt, only exposing the three red scars. "holy shit! look at those claw marks! mine aren't even that impressive!"
"Jace, focus. she's not here to show you how impressive they are.. she's in serious pain," Kassidy said with a sigh. "she says that they've been throbbing for quite some time today... even i haven't experienced that when i was first changed. and we've all been changed by that same menacing black monster.."
"yeah, so why do my claw marks hurt the most right now?" Rhi grumbled, finally finding the energy to speak. "i hate this, i really do. and there's NO WAY in HELL that i'm gonna show this to a doctor. he or she would just freak out and send me to some mental hospital."
they all sat in silence for a long period of time, until Rhi couldn't stand it any longer. the pain was really making her grouchy. "well? any bright new ideas on how to help me?"
Kassidy glanced over at her, then at Jace, who nodded once. whatever was going on in their heads, it looked like Rhi was just about to find out.
"ok, so instead of the risk of you going to a mental hospital... we know someone else who can help you. he's a witch doctor that knows about our species, and he treats all kinds of other supernatural beings. Jace and i have only been there once before, like several years ago, but we still remember where he keeps his profession."
Rhi was baffled. "a witch doctor? seriously? those also exist?" she sat up slowly, then sighed. "alright alright, just take me to him, please. at this point i'll do anything to get rid of this agonizing pain."
