the next day, after Rhi successfully and safely transported her cooler full of meat into her basement freezer, she was aware that she would be turning into a mindless beast of legend during the full moon tomorrow night. but she was more than thankful that there were two other people that would be going through the same ordeal.

it was almost too crazy to think about.

school started in an hour, but Rhi was already up and had showered 30 minutes before. she was weirdly thankful for her super early start, even if it was on a Monday, which basically never happened. she also wondered if this had anything to do with her first change, and if Kassidy and Jace were doing the same thing.

finally, after an hour passed, Rhi grabbed her backpack and went downstairs to meet her mom in the kitchen, whom was already making french toast. she smiled at Rhi as soon as she entered the kitchen. "good morning, hun. i made one of your favorites; french toast with powdered sugar! figured that this would get you a good start in your day."

Rhi nodded, although some dark and ancient part of her would've preferred bacon or some raw, bloody mea- "yeah mom, it looks really good! thank you." dismissing the last of her primal thoughts, she dug into the french toast and ate it before Jenny could even sit down. she laughed. "wow, you sure were hungry. ok, let me finish mine super fast and then we'll leave."

as soon as Rhi walked into the school, her best friend walked right up to her as usual. "hey there. you look cute today."

Rhi smiled. "thanks, it's a new outfit, i guess. wanted to try something different." her outfit consisted of a creamy-beige sweatshirt that went down to her knees, black ripped jeans, and white vans, which complimented the whole look.

"awesome. hey, before we head off to class, i wanted you to meet someone. his name is Brody."

Rhi snorted. "no offense, but that sounds like a stereotypical surfer boy's name. not that we live even remotely close to a beach, but still." that made Amber laugh so hard, but she stopped as soon as they came across the supposed "Brody".

"hello, Brody. i brought my good friend here, Rhiannon. Rhi, meet Brody Mackson. Brody, meet Rhi. now talk." she backed away just one step, and i looked up to meet Brody's sparkling green gaze. "um, hi?"

"hey. uh.. nice to meet you." he ran a hand through his sandy brown hair, which Rhi had to admit was an attractive gesture. he let out a chuckle when he saw Rhi staring, and she looked down so he wouldn't see the red tint in her cheeks. "well, uh, what do you like to do?"

not a very interesting question, but it was a start. and it seemed to make Amber happy. "uhh, i like to read, and listen to music. what about you?"

he opened his mouth to say an answer, but a girl with light brown hair and reverse blonde ombré hair walked up and wrapped her arm around Brody's upper bicep. "hey there, who's this?" if Rhi didn't know any better, the other girl was jealous. Amber immediately came up by Rhi for support. "oh hey, Jessica. how are you?"

that name sounded scarily familiar to Rhi, of course from one of Amber's gossip tales.

the girl turned her beady brown gaze over to Amber. "oh, hi Amber. who's your little friend and how does she know my boyfriend?"

oh my god, this is something that i don't want to be involved in, 100%, Rhi thought to herself. "hey Am, i think i'm gonna go ahead and head to class. seems like your other friends are here to talk to you..."

"nonsense. i would like to know your name," Jessica suddenly piped up, and Rhi sighed. "my name is Rhiannon, but i'm mostly known as Rhi. i've heard so much about you," she said with a fake smile.

Jessica grinned. "ah, ok. i think i might've heard about you too. so, on to more important matters, how do you know Brody?"

"Jess, they literally just met 2 minutes ago before you came up and started interrogating her. Rhi, it's okay, you can go to class now."

Rhi nodded, thankful to have an out, and she hurriedly walked away from the scene. she could feel a tingling sensation at the back of her neck, and knew that Jessica was watching her. what the hell was that all about?

as soon as Rhi walked into her first class, the bell rang and a couple of late kids filed in before Mrs. Owens noticed. she got on with her lesson a few minutes later, but Rhi couldn't help but to tune her out. her mind was filled with way too many things: who was the black werewolf? why did it (or he) turn her into a beast of legend? and of course, i'm turning into a freaking werewolf tomorrow night!!

"Rhiannon, hello? is anyone in there today?" Mrs. Owens announced loudly, dragging Rhi out of her thoughts. a couple giggles resounded around the classroom.

"uh, what? could you please repeat the question?" Rhi asked patiently, forcing her mind to temporarily forget about her dilemma, which happened to be way more important than this; they were grading their English quizzes from last week.

"is the answer supposed to be C or D?" the teacher pointed down at Rhi's quiz, and she followed her finger to question #5: what was the importance of writing in the mid-1800s?

Rhi thought for a moment, then folded her arms across her chest and leaned back in her chair, delivering her answer as confidently as she could. "i believe it's C; people wanted to express their intelligence in a new way, and that form was writing." that was the best answer she could give, but apparently it seemed to be correct. "that's right, because what other purpose did the people back then have for means of writing? and then comes along famous authors such as Rudyard Kipling and Mark Twain..."

Rhi began to tune her out again. she had successfully answered the question, so she found no other obligation to listen to Mrs. Owens, and instead dwelled on her werewolf thoughts.

lunchtime came around pretty quickly, much to Rhi's relief, and she met Amber at their usual table. today was burger day, and Rhi had bought two cheeseburgers and four pieces of sausage.

"wow, i still can't believe that you quit veganism so quickly. i mean, look at you: you've got four massive sausage patties and two cheeseburgers. who are you and what have you done to my best friend?" Amber said with a largely powerful laugh.  Rhi had to laugh along with her and pretend that she wasn't a newly turned werewolf, or maybe just a crazy person that thought she was a werewolf.

yep, she was still onto that theory.

"i wasn't a vegan, i was a vegetarian. the two are very similar, but vegans are like hardcore herbivores. vegetarians still eat things like plant based burgers, plant based butter, etc.," Rhi explained as she bit into her first cheeseburger.

"ah, now that my super smart best friend is here, i totally get it much better now," Amber giggled. "but seriously, thanks for clearing that up."

Rhi laughed again, then finished up her first cheeseburger and immediately dove into the next one. after that, she wolfed down the sausage patties and gulped down her water.

Amber watched her the whole time as if she were a martian.
