the chapter where Rhi fi-nally shifts into a wolf (^-^)
"hey mom, i don't feel so good."
Jenny stared at her daughter over the counter, turning her head briefly from the dinner she was cooking on the stove. "really? what's the matter with you hun?"
"i don't know, i've just been feeling queasy all day today, and i could hardly concentrate in some of my classes. could i stay home from school tomorrow, please?" it was a pretty long shot trying to convince her mother to let her stay at home, because Jenny usually had a history of forcing Rhi to go school even on her deathbed.
sure enough, she sighed and continued stirring the spaghetti noodles. "are you sure you're feeling sick? or are you trying to play a game of Hooky on me?" with her mom, there was always that topic of conversation too.
"no mom, i'm serious! i need to stay home tomorrow. i almost threw up in the bathroom today, and i... i even had to go to the nurse."
"well that's strange, because the nurse never even called me today."
wow, she was really in it to win it this one particular time. of course it would be now, when her wonderfully calm and introverted daughter would turn into a snarling and terrifying half wolf tomorrow night.
"mom, she didn't call because i was feeling much better by then and got sent back to class. but, when i got home today, i threw up. like, for real this time."
Jenny was silent for a long moment, and Rhi fiddled with her fingers while the sound of boiling water filled the kitchen. then her mom spoke again. "ok hun, i think i believe you. look, you can stay home tomorrow, but you have to tell me that you don't have any quizzes, tests, or incoming projects to do."
Rhi smiled out of pure relief, finally letting out that breath she had been holding in. "no mom, we don't have any of those on a Tuesday. i just need at least one day to recover from my weird nausea issue."
her mom finally smiled. "alright kid. if you really haven't been feeling so well, then you can stay home from school tomorrow. better to keep it here than to spread it to other kids. it's already bad enough that it's allergy season."
Rhi nodded, then smiled back. this was officially the first good thing that had happened to her ever since she became a werewolf.

since Rhi wasn't going to school tomorrow, she decided to stay up late and now she was texting Kassidy the good news. she would've texted Jace as well, but she didn't quite have his number yet.
hey!! guess what? i'm able to stay home from school tomorrow so i can focus on tomorrow night!
two minutes passed, then Kassidy typed up a response. oh hey, look at you girl! remember what i said the other day: u HAVE to strengthen your endurance and boost your inner strength by eating lots of meat and maybe run around for a little bit.
ok, but i'm still worried about what i'm supposed to say to my mom tomorrow night. she'll TOTALLY get suspicious.
hey don't worry about that stuff yet. i promise you i've got a plan, and i'll tell you more about it tomorrow. i'm also not going to school tomorrow but i'm feeling like shit ready to go to bed.
yeah, me too. well, goodnight Kassidy. see you... tomorrow night.
see you tomorrow night. then the digital conversation was over, and Rhi went to bed and dreamed of wolves chasing the moon.
