something had to have happened.
something very very bad.
but what was it?
all Rhi could remember was teeth, claws, and angry yellow eyes. but where did those teeth claws and eyes come from, and why did it keep popping up in her head like that?
it was Saturday morning, the morning following the event of the party, and Rhi couldn't remember what else happened after she walked out into that yard last night. she .. she didn't even know what happened with Amber, and if she was okay or not.
"shit, i should probably call her," Rhi muttered to herself. she turned on her phone, and realized all of a sudden how the hell she even got home. had she been too drunk to remember? she hoped her mom didn't find out she had beer....
after Rhi dialed her friend's number, it took her at least three times for her to finally answer. "h-hello?" a weak croak sounded from the other end.
"Amber?? hey, it's me Rhi! what the hell happened last night?"
"gee, i really don't know. i was so wasted last night... and i kinda went off and did my own thing. i'm so, so sorry! i feel like such a bad friend and a total bitch! i was just too drunk..."
"no no, it's fine. i just wanted to make sure you were okay and that you didn't get in trouble," Rhi mumbled. "i don't remember what happened either, so we're pretty much in the same boat. but you didn't get in trouble, right?"
"uhhh..." Amber started to laugh nervously. "i think my mom did notice a little bit, BUT i told her i only had one drink! so i didn't get in a whole lot of trouble, and she didn't notice how wasted i was, so everything turned out to be fine."
Rhi laughed too. "wow, that's pretty damn lucky. i have no idea how i even got home, so i don't know if my mom found out about my own drinking."
"fuck, you must've been pretty wasted too if you can't even remember getting picked up last night," Amber said with a giggle, but then turned serious. "i mean, it's no laughing matter. but i think i remember seeing your mom picking you up? like, someone was helping you to the car, and that's all i can remember. at least, i think someone was helping you to your car..."
"that's okay, i'll ask my mom later and she'll give me some info, hopefully. last night was so crazy, and i feel like i have a killer headache."
"nice, Rhi! this is officially your first hangover! congrats!"
"i really don't know if that's something to be happy about, Am."
"i know i know. ok, i'll let you go so you can, uh, ask your mom about last night"
"alright, bye Am."
she hung up and left her bed, then walked over to her mirror. she closed her eyes and took a deep breath, expecting to see a mess, but when she opened them she looked pretty normal. her hair was still straight from last night, her makeup was still there, perfect as ever, and she had no bags under her eyes. strange.
"hey mom??" Rhi called out as she walked downstairs. "mom, we need to talk. it's about last night." she gently opened the door to her mom's bedroom. "mom?"
"i'm in here!" she called from the kitchen, and Rhi walked down the last two stairs and met her mom in the kitchen.
"good morning! you didn't get to tell me how your party was last night," her mom said with a smile, holding a cup of coffee in her hands. Rhi frowned. "um... yeah, about that. i was so tired last night from all the dancing that i don't remember all that happened. you did take me home, right?"
Jenny looked baffled. "yes, of course i did. why wouldn't i?"
"i-i don't know. like i said, i was really tired last night..."
"Rhiannon, you did not drink last night, correct?"
"mom, of course i didn't drink! i told you i wouldn't do that! i just don't remember because there was so much happening last night, that was all." She hated lying, but for some reason now seemed like a good time to not tell the truth.
Jenny hesitated before shrugging. "ok, i believe you. it must've been a wild party if you don't remember that i kept my promise and picked you up. come to think of it, you didn't even look like you drank beer last night..."
well that's a relief. "yeah, because i didn't drink...." just keep believing it please.
"that's great to hear that you had such a fun time last night hon. oh, and i made some coffee! feel free to grab some since i bet you're feeling a little tired still. i'm gonna go watch the news." she left the kitchen and entered the living room.
Rhi was still feeling very confused about the situation. she wasn't sure why she couldn't remember what happened after she entered James's yard. and why did she keep thinking about teeth and claws? she sure hoped she didn't have more than three drinks last night, and was just as lucky as Amber to not get into trouble.
Rhi fixed herself a cup of coffee and went back upstairs, wanting to take a shower and wipe off her makeup. it made her really uncomfortable that she had slept with a crapload of makeup on. it just wasn't like her to do that, let alone wear a whole lot of makeup.
she wiped it off in a flourish, then stepped into the warm water of the shower, her body instantly welcoming the soothing water that flowed over her muscles.
after she had scrubbed her hair and body and rinsed off, Rhi turned the water off and got out, taking a full examination of herself in the mirror. something wasn't right, she just couldn't quite tell what it was yet. her face looked normal again without all that makeup, her body was muscular and sleek beneath the towel...
muscular? but i don't even workout... Rhi looked closer at her arms and legs, then gasped. her eyes weren't deceiving her after all. there were slight hints of muscles there, but not too noticeable thankfully. but seriously, had those always been there?
"ok Rhi, keep it together, it's nothing. just get dressed and catty on with your day," she mumbled to herself, drying off and putting some clothes on. she started to blow her hair dry,,,
,,,and screamed.
there was a pearl-white streak of hair just above her ear.
Had she gotten a little bit of her hair dyed last night at the party...?? that had to be it, or else why the hell else would she suddenly have a white streak just above her ear?
"this is really, really, REALLY messed up." she needed to wash it out before her mom noticed.
but Rhi ended up spending a good ten minutes trying to get the stuff out, and no luck. this wasn't happening. her mom would seriously lose her shit if she saw that her hair had been dyed permanently at some stupid high school party. maybe it was a bad idea to go, since Rhi couldn't even remember half of what happened last night and she had three drinks.
Rhi finished up blow drying the rest of her hair, and her heart plummeted when she saw that the white looked nearly twice as noticeable when dry. how had her mom not seen it yet?? probably by some miracle.
"hey Amber, something's wrong. i just took a shower and blew dry my hair, and i found this... WHITE streak of hair right above my ear! i don't know what to do!" by now she had called Amber for help.
"ohmigod! seriously?? that's pretty freaky..."
"i know! i don't know what the hell im supposed to do about it! if my mom sees it she'll flip! i must've dyed my hair a little bit last night at the party. i can't remember."
"ok ok, relax. it's just a single small, very small, piece of white hair that's hidden near your ear. can't be too big of a deal, right? trust me, your mom will never notice. it'll be okay." she paused for a moment. "you know what, how about we hang out again today? we can talk a little about the party, maybe find some things out by calling a couple of my other partygoer friends?"
Rhi nodded quickly before answering the phone. "y-yeah, that'd be awesome. i'll go tell my mom to drop me off at your place right now."
"ok, i'll see you in a bit. we will get to the bottom of this Rhi, i can feel it."
