2 hours later, they still had no luck with the potion. with each vial that they poured the potion into, the glass instantly shattered and the liquid pooled around their fingers, dripping into the sink. it was like a lethal chemistry experiment gone horribly wrong with each attempt.

they were also only down to 30 vials now, where they originally had around 100, and this would probably be the final homestretch before they ran out.

Dr. Klaus told them to stay optimistic, even though these were probably the only vials he had left. by now it had turned from a casual chemistry experiment to an hour full of sheer luck that would have to work eventually. if the rest of these glasses broke, then it was game over.

Rhi was really frustrated by now, and felt like shattering the rest of the vials out of sheer anger. they would probably shatter soon anyway, since they were all too faulty and weak to handle the poison.

it just went to show how powerful a poison they needed in order to kill Malice.

"shit... we've only got 14 left. i don't think we're going to be successful," Jace muttered, slamming his fist down on the counter as he glared down at the sink full of shattered glass and bluish-purple liquid. Klaus turned to look at him with a deep frown. "i told you to be optimistic, kid. you won't get anything done if you don't believe in the last set of vials we have here. i'm getting frustrated too, but i also want to kill Malice just as badly as the rest of you, so i'm keeping my motivations set in."

"but we've nearly gone through 100 of these things and nearly 3 hours have passed by now!" Jace protested. "i'm getting sick of this. i think we could all use a lengthy break before we break the rest of them."

Rhi couldn't help but agree, Kassidy too, but Klaus wanted to keep working. "fine, you three kids can go take a 10 minute maximum break, but then you're coming back and working."

the three of them leaned on a wall nearby, watching Klaus make more of the potion. "Malice has to be taken down. dozens and dozens of innocent people could've been killed while we were wasting time down here, breaking glass and going right back to square one," Jace grumbled, arms folded tightly across his chest.

"don't worry, we'll figure something out. we CAN'T give up yet," Kassidy declared. "and we weren't exactly wasting time. we were actually doing something and trying to figure a way to destroy our enemy. we can't exactly give up yet."

"i say we go back and help. even Klaus is willing to keep working, and he's absolutely terrified of Malice," Rhi announced. "if we keep working, even with only 14 vials left, we can do this. we have to keep trying." she began to walk back to the counter, with Kassidy at her heels, and they started to help Klaus again.

after a moment, Jace sighed loudly and rejoined them, and they began to work some more.

glass continued to break, the numbers dwindled, all until...

...Rhi held the unbroken vial, mouth agape as she carefully examined it in case it did break. "you guys..." she whispered, barely audible.

Klaus, Kassidy, and Jace all turned to stare at her, mouths also agape and eyes wide. Klaus slowly took a step closer to her, gently taking the vial away from her gloved hands. "oh my... you've finally done it! you've finally found the unbroken vial! i believe now we finally have a chance to kill our enemy, once and for all."

Rhi looked at Jace, as if to say 'see? we told you so.'
he seemed to have gotten the message, and he grinned and punched his hand in the air triumphantly.

Kassidy turned to Klaus after patting Rhi on the back. "NOW can we figure out a plan to lure Malice over?"
