over the span of fifteen minutes, more and more people showed up and then the party started to get wild. Amber and Rhi stuck close together, as promised, and Rhi started to feel better with her friend around. maybe this wouldn't be too bad after all?

the blonde and the brunette kept their arms linked together with a friendly ferocity, and pushed through the growing crowd of people. a mix of dubstep, rap, and house music boomed through the massive speakers, and Rhi could hardly hear herself think.

"lt's go dnce!" Amber shouted something indecipherable at Rhi.

"what?" Rhi shouted back.

"i sd, LET'S GO DANCE!" Amber screamed, grabbing Rhi's arm and hauling her into the living room, which was supposed to be the dance floor for tonight.

right now, a mash-up of through the late night (by Travis Scott) and love is gone (by David Guetta) was blaring out to the sweaty teenage bodies. Rhi and Amber quickly joined the crowd and began to dance; Rhi sure hoped she wasn't making a fool of herself because she hadn't danced since eighth grade.

the electronic pulse of the music combined with the raging energy of the other teenagers was almost too intoxicating for Rhi, but Amber was having the time of her life. this wasn't anything new to her, of course. after a few minutes, Rhi felt someone slip something into her hand; a red Solo cup. Very original.

she looked further into the contents of the cup, and it seemed to be beer. she shrugged and took a sip of it, and was surprised by how good it tasted. Rhi took a longer sip, although it was more of a swig by now. Amber seemed to have also been given a mysterious red Solo cup, and she was smiling and drinking out of it, dancing along to the beat of the energetic music.

as Rhi took more sips out of the cup, she started to recall how her mom had said, "absolutely NO drinking. If I hear that you touched a single bottle of alcohol..." but Amber had also declared that it wouldn't hurt to have at least one drink, so she continued drinking out of the cup until it was all gone. Amber had finished hers long ago, but now she appeared to be dragging Rhi into the kitchen area for more. sure enough, there seemed to be an endless amount of red Solo cups and several bottles of beer, wine, vodka, whiskey, you name it. Rhi started to feel a little nervous.

"oh come on, you've gotta have at least one more! please? i'll do it with you," Amber pleaded, staring at Rhi with large blue doe eyes. when Rhi sighed and gave in, Amber grinned happily and both poured them a refill of Jack Daniels this time. "let's get back to the dance floor!" she shrieked, and dragged Rhi back to the loud living room.

Rhi had absolutely no idea how much time had passed, but if she could guess, then she would say that they had been at the party for at least two hours now. her blonde friend was still wild and full of energy, while Rhi decided to sit down somewhere while her crazy friend was still in her sights.

Amber sat with her about ten minutes later. "this isss sso cool," she laughed, her voice slurring. fuck, how many drinks did she even have? Rhi had lost count about an hour ago.

"hey, maybe we should cool it for a little while. you seem like you need a rest and I..."

"oh, no no! i'm f-fine girl! i jussst need to keep dancing." she started to stand up, wobbling a little, and Rhi felt really worried for her. she didn't know how long they were both planning to stay at the party, but if Amber's mom came to pick her up and saw that she was totally wasted, then she would throw a major shitstorm. but the other problem was that Rhi also felt a little drunk; she didn't have as many drinks as Amber, but it was still enough to make her feel hella buzzed.

she hoped this party wouldn't turn out to be a bad idea.

but, while Rhi had been worrying in her own little world, Amber was gone.

oh fuck.

"Amber?' she called out, hoping her friend would hear her over both her drunken state and the loud music. fat chance, but she tried again anyway, moving throughout the house and taking a couple laps around each room. still no luck. Rhi started to panic a little; ok, that was an understatement, but still.

Amber had promised not to leave her, not to mention that she was also drunk and Rhi would have to take care of her until the party ended. Not that she didn't want to, but in this situation it wasn't very ideal.

things were not looking good for tonight.

"shit shit shit... i need to go outside," she muttered to herself after fifteen minutes of searching. she would totally call Amber tomorrow and announce her frustrations about tonight. that didn't seem very friend-like, but the alcohol in Rhi's own system was making her super pissed off.

she stumbled outside through a sliding glass door that led out to the yard, and there were only a few people out here and no music. much better.

Rhi sat down on a bench that was at the edge of the yard, a little ways away from the house so she could get away from everyone else. there was a new moon tonight, so the yard was pitch black and shrouded in a creepy darkness just beyond the bench. Rhi placed her head in her hands; she felt like her vision was swimming and a headache was creeping in, even though she only had a few drinks. maybe it was because she was feeling stressed about Amber. her friend was nowhere to be found anywhere inside the massive house, and this outside area was the only place that Rhi hadn't checked.

when she was going to consider going back inside, she could've sworn she saw a flash of blonde through the trees. maybe it was the alcohol, maybe it wasn't, but she decided to check anyway.

"Amber? hello, are you there?" she called, but no response. she was getting farther and farther away from the yard and the patio, and deeper and deeper into the darkness and the forest. a twig suddenly snapped, and she jumped. it was probably a stupid squirrel or something like that.

the atmosphere continued to grow ominous, and Rhi had the very unpleasant feeling that she was being watched. the yard was far behind her now; she could just barely see a few prickles of light through the thick foliage and the trees. turning back suddenly seemed like a really good idea.

but as she walked back to the yard, a series of twigs snapped behind her and Rhi stopped dead, listening. no more twigs snapped as she just stood there. she really really hoped someone was playing some sort of twisted joke on her. and when she took another step forward, a deep and scary growl sounded not too far behind her. her heart slammed against her chest, nearly giving herself a heart attack. please be a dog, please be a dog...

and then she started to run when she glimpsed a pair of eyes behind her.

she ran as fast as she could, trying to get back to the yard before this scary dog thing decided to get her. Rhi opened her mouth to scream for help, until she slammed into the ground, having been knocked over by an overhanging branch. her vision grew blurry, so she could hardly see the large and angry black dog standing above her.

but right before the claws and teeth came down, she realized that there were no dogs with that insane yellow glare.
