April 1976

Brian's P.O.V

Spring is probably my favourite time of year. You get to see the trees and flowers blossom and sprout new roots and when the weather is just right.

I was sat in the living room, the walls decorated with bright oranges and browns, the record player humming out soft tunes of The Beatles.

The TV was turned on, an episode of Fawlty Towers was playing, muted in the background. Bright rays of sunlight flowed into the room, spilling onto the mahogany coffee table and carpet.

"Brimi?" A small voice asked from the kitchen doorway, barely audible over the sound of the record player. I felt the sofa dip next to me and my boyfriend's small hands wrapped themselves around my waist.

I felt his soft brown hair brush against my arm and his warm face press into my chest. I looked down at him lovingly, watching as he returned the look with his gorgeous emerald green eyes.

"Can we go out today? It's driving me nuts being stuck inside all weekend" He said quietly, gesturing towards the window. I shifted in my seat a little, trying my best not to disturb him.

"Sure" I mumbled, lazily turning off the TV and chucking the remote onto the pillow next to me. "Where do you want to go?" I smiled at him warmly, my heart melting as his cheeks flushed pink.

"Well uhm. Roger told me that there was a show going on later" His voice trailed off later on in the sentence. He knew I wasn't on great terms with Roger at that point in time.

"John, darling, speak up a little please?" I rubbed his cheek with my thumb. His cheeks blushing an even darker shade of pink.

"Well, Roger told me that there was a show going on later" He said softly "Y'know, one of the popup cinemas?" I nodded and wrapped my arms around his small frame.

"What's it playing?" I asked, quirking an eyebrow at him curiously.

"A Star Is Born? I think, it's one of those American films" I nodded and pulled him into my lap.

"It sounds lovely my dear" I murmured, placing a gentle kiss under his ear. He flushed a deep shade of scarlet, his skin was hot to the touch.

We pulled into our assigned place in the popup cinema. A couple of cars were sparsely parked around us but not too many people happened to be there.

The film was about twenty minutes through, the traffic was really bad on the way there due to a closed road. I pulled my seat back so I had a good view of the screen, John was already engrossed in the film.

I felt his warm hand slip into mine and he gave it a loving squeeze. I peered over at him and saw a little smile from across his adorable face in the low light.

I had never felt happier and more at peace.

------------------------------------------------------------------

We got home at around ten O'clock at night. The ambient, tranquil noise of home welcomed us like a warm blanket on a winter's night.

I hung up my coat and looked at him, practically boneless on the sofa, sinking into the pillows. A car went by the apartment and illuminated him.

He looked gorgeous, his long brown hair messy and tangled, his cheeks a little puffy from crying at the film and his eyes shut contently.

"I'll be right back" I said quickly, quickly making my way to our shared room. I flicked on the light and began scavenging through my shirt drawer.

I felt it, the small red velvet box I had hidden all those months ago. I held it up in my hands like a prized jewel, admiring the little embroidered gemstones that surrounded the box top.

I quickly opened the lid of the box and smiled warmly at the ring inside. It was golden, black writing was etched into the metal and a beautiful peridot gemstone was placed neatly ontop.

The writing read "Don't you hear my call? Though you're many years away, don't you hear me calling you?" It was John's favourite song that we had recorded, I wrote it with him in mind.

"Brian? Are you dead upstairs?" John called from the living room. I quickly snapped the box shut and made sure it was hidden in my jean pocket before heading downstairs.

John was propped up on the sofa, a plethora of blankets were wrapped around him and all the pillows were behind his head. He was watching a late night game show that was playing quietly in the background.

I switched off the TV and scavenged around for my Blue Hawaii record, ignoring John's annoyed comment of "I was watching that you wombat"

I found it underneath a bunch of old, unused vinyls. I placed it on the record player and moved it onto Can't Help Falling In Love.

"John Deacon, will you dance with me?" I asked, flashing him a smile and holding out my hand. He hesitantly took it and quirked his eyebrow at me.

"You're acting really strange Bri" He murmured as I pulled him close toward me. I chuckled as Elvis Presley began to sing the soothing lyrics.

"Nah, just.. enjoy yourself" I said gently, taking his hands in mine. He placed his head on my shoulder as we slow danced around our living room in the late spring darkness.

After the song had stopped I let go of John's hands and got down on one knee. I took a deep breath, my heart felt like it was racing over a hundred miles an hour.

"John Richard Deacon" I said shakily, fumbling around in my pocket for the little ring box. I pulled it out and held it in inbetween my sweaty palms.

"Will you...Will you make me the happiest man alive and marry me?" A cars headlights illuminated the room, his face was shocked and his eyes were wide.

"I-I know we can't actually get married b-but, you can wear this ring" I took his small hand in mine and slid the ring onto his finger "And then I-I'll know that y-you're my husband"

I smiled at him, his face still shocked. "You serious?" He asked, his eyes darting from the ring now seated comfortably on his finger then back to me.

I swallowed the lump in my throat and nodded, car headlights were the only kind of light we had at this time. I stood up and let go of his hand.

"I-I understand if you don't w-want to or if you t-think it's dumb but I really m-mean it John" I took both his hands in mine and looked him dead in the eyes "I want to spend the rest of my life with you"

John smiled at me, small breaths escaping his lips as he stared at the ring. "Yes, god yes Brian May!" He leaped into my arms and wrapped his hands around my neck.

"I love you John"

"I love you too Brian"
