The Servant of the Demon Lord

~Chapter 6~

"Don't worry Mayu, A-Un is friendly!~" Rin chirped seeing Mayu tense a little seeing the large, two-headed dragon standing behind Rin. Mayu relaxed a little at Rin's words.

"Come." Sesshomaru spoke before walking over to Rin and A-Un, Eri standing to the side waiting for her next command. Mayu followed close by, then jumped nearly out of her skin when Sesshomaru suddenly reached back taking her hand in his own. However, what surprised her was how gentle he was. His claws barely tapped her hand a couple of times, and his grip was awfully loose, only guiding her hand. He held her hand out to A-Un who took turns sniffing it.

"If she commands you, do so." He spoke lowly, they nodded in response.

'If I command?' Sesshomaru then let her hand go making her realize how warm his hand actually was.

"Get on A-Un with Rin." He said before moving to the side. Mayu looked over at Eri.

"Aren't you coming?" Mayu asked.

"Hmm? Oh no, I have duties here to take care of." Eri said with a smile. Mayu frowned.

"Alright." Rin then took Mayu's hand with a smile, so Mayu smiled as well. Mayu picked her up putting her on A-Un before getting on as well.

"To the festival!~" Rin cheered happily making Mayu let out a soft giggle.

"I have the belongings you requested, Sesshomaru-sama!" Mayu looked to see Jaken.

"Tie the bag to A-Un's saddle." Sesshomaru commanded.

"Y-Yes M'Lord!" He then hurried to do as he's told. Once he was done, he grabbed A-Un's reins and Sesshomaru started walking off so Jaken hurried to follow making A-Un stand up and start walking as well.

"We'll be back soon Eri!" Mayu called while waving.

"Have fun!" Eri called back waving as well before she headed back inside the palace. The walk was silent, Mayu took in the sights as they went, then her eyes landed on Sesshomaru. He confused her, more so now than before. He was being oddly gentle with her, similar to Rin. Was what Eri said true? Mayu let out a gentle breath closing her eyes taking in the night's cool touch.

"It's pretty out tonight, ne, Sesshomaru-sama?" Rin spoke up making Mayu look, she could tell the poor girl was just trying to get the demon lord's mind off of what happened earlier.

"Don't bug Sesshomaru-sama when he's thin-"

"Jaken." Sesshomaru growled sending Jaken a glare making the small creature hunker down. When Sesshomaru said no more, Rin frowned and lowered her gaze. Mayu frowned as she pulled Rin close, resting a gentle hand on her shoulder.

"The night is calm, Rin." Rin's eyes sparkled and a bright smile formed on her face.

"Uhn!" Mayu smiled. According to Eri, he used to hide his gentleness with Rin from others, but now he doesn't. Mayu wondered what was making him soften up, but she didn't dare question it.

"Ooh, look, a shooting star!" Rin said as she pointed to the sky. Mayu looked for a moment, then looked back down at Rin who was now silently making a wish. She then smiled and looked up at Mayu.

"If you wish on a shooting star, your wish will come true!" She chirped.

"What a silly thing, that's not true." Jaken said rolling his eyes.

"How do you know, Jaken?" Mayu asked innocently, but Sesshomaru knew better so he glanced back at the two.

"Because I do!" He snapped.

"Hmm, I dunno. I heard that heavenly beings send a shooting star to a lucky creature, only one though, maybe that why you never seen it work."

"Oh yeah? Then so ahead and make a wish, if it works, then I'll do whatever you say for a whole day!" Mayu raised a brow.

"Anything?"

"Anything!"

"Alright, next shooting star we see, I'll use to make a wish. I won't take this one from Rin." Mayu said petting Rin's soft hair gently.

"Keh!" Jaken looked away once again, making Mayu hold a grin for one split moment. She wasn't too fond of how Jaken treated Rin, he was snarky and cold, it'd benefit him to just ignore her but he chooses to be an ass. Once again, the walk was silent, Rin was now leaning on Mayu asleep, Mayu nodding off here and there but she chose not to move Rin and wake her just so she could get comfortable so she could sleep.

"Mayu." Mayu perked up hearing Sesshomaru finally break the silence.

"I see you nodding off. Rest." His voice was stern, yet, his gaze was soft. Even the small green imp was confused of his intentions.

"I'm alright. Plus, Rin's already asleep, I wish not to wake her." Mayu spoke softly.

"She doesn't wake with gentle movement, you're fine." He said before looking away. Mayu looked to the side for a moment, then sighed softly doing as told. She wasn't too sure how to get comfortable on a saddle, so she just laid on her back with Rin on top of her. She let out a gentle breath closing her eyes letting A-Un's gentle swaying sooth her. After a long silence, Mayu started to nod off once again, that was until the silence was broken.

"Sesshomaru-sama, why are you accompanying us if it's the human vermin's duty to care for Rin in your stead?" Mayu took a quick peek but decided to close her eye once more and just listen.

"I promised Rin I would take her." Sesshomaru spoke in a calm tone.

"But it's a waste of time M'Lord! Rin doesn't understand how impractical these silly wants of hers are." Mayu clenched her jaws a little irritated at the green imp.

"She is a child, Jaken." Sesshomaru growled softly.

"I still think Rin could have been satisfied with just the human vermin-"

"Her name is Mayu." Sesshomaru interrupted Jaken surprising both him and Mayu.

"And Jaken, you have no right to question my choices." Jaken eeped.

"P-P-Please forgive me M'Lord!"

"Quiet, you'll wake them." Sesshomaru snarled, his nerves on edge yet again. Jaken fell silent while Mayu wanted to facepalm, this was going to calm Sesshomaru down, or she thought at least.

'Geez, and here I told Chikara that Sesshomaru would be straightened up and calm when we got back. Thanks, Jaken, I'm sure to hear it now unless Eri makes him leave me alone.' Mayu let out a steady breath.

'Rin will most likely fix this, how could she not? Her cheerfulness rubs off too easy.' With that, she finally let herself fall asleep. Sesshomaru glanced back at the girls to make sure they were still asleep before looking ahead once more ready to walk throughout the night.
