~Chapter 22~

"So, how was your date?~" Eri asked in a teasing tone making Mayu turn bright red.

"Pardon?" Eri giggled.

"Come now, it's obvious you both like each other!" Mayu sighed.

"I'm not so sure now, I was certain he didn't think anything of me until today." Mayu muttered.

"Oh?~" Eri asked curiously.

"W-Well, right before we came home, he kissed my hand and thanked me. He never told me what he meant either." Mayu explained.

"Hmm, he's most likely thankful for you aiding him this morning." Eri pointed out.

"Possibly." Mayu muttered.

"But oh lucky you.~ Every female and even some males would give anything to have been in your place." Eri teased making Mayu giggle.

"It doesn't help that last night he had me rest with him. He's so confusing sometimes." Eri nodded.

"Honestly, he confuses me too, he acts like a whole new man around you!" Eri said with a giggle.

"Speaking of him though, I should check on him." Mayu pointed out.

"Oh, Mayu, you know what you can do to end the day perfectly?" Mayu tilted her head.

"Don't tell him I told you this, but he loved taking warm baths with lavender oils dripped in the water. He adores the scent." Mayu thought for a moment, then smiled.

"Then I'll prepare a bath for him, though, it'll take a few extra drops in that pond sized tub." Eri laughed.

"Don't worry about it, that's the one thing we're not running out of." Mayu nodded.

"Thanks for the tip Eri." She nodded. With that, Mayu walked off and to the tub they spoke of. She warmed the water, put the lavender oil drops in mixing it, she even found a lavender-scented candle to light as she covered the windows dimming the room's light. She smiled, then walked out to go fetch Sesshomaru who, of course, was in his office. This time, she didn't even have to knock.

"Come in." He spoke.

'Huh, he must not be as tired as yesterday. Good.' She opened the door and walked in.

"I've prepared something for you." She said with a smile.

"Being?" He asked glancing up at her.

"A surprise, so come on." She ushered him.

"Not-"

"Yes now, or it won't be good anymore." His brows furrowed, then he sighed in defeat getting up and walking over. Mayu smiled brightly as she opened the door for him. She closed it behind them, then lead him. When they got there, he glanced down at her.

"Eri?" He asked already catching.

"U-Um, no?" She asked. He sighed shaking his head.

"Have a relaxing night Sesshomaru, you need it." He glanced at her again, then walked over. She smiled and went to walk out, yet.

"Mayu." She looked over, he was undressing making her quickly look at the floor.

"Yes?" She asked, her face warming a little.

"Join me." She looked up surprised. Then again, she should be used to this by now. Huh?

"N-No no, it's fine, it's for y-"

"Mayu." She sighed.

"Very well." She muttered. She waited for him to look away before undressing, still trying to hide herself. She then climbed in on the other side, yet again, covering herself like the night they were in the hotspring together. It was silent, just like that night. 

"Mayu." She glanced up, he was looking right at her.

"Do you still fear me?" She perked up at this. Did she? No, not really. Sure, there was the incident with Chikara, but other than that, no.

"You hesitate." He spoke up again. Mayu sighed.

"I don't mean to, I do not fear you, no." She answered.

"Then come here." She froze.

"What?"

"Come here." He said again. Mayu stayed frozen. What did he mean by 'come here'? Sit by his side?? Why doesn't he just say it that way??? He sighed, then moved instead. She tensed when he suddenly grabbed her wrist pulling her to him, she had nearly lost her balance and fallen on him. She had accidentally placed her hand on his chest to balance herself, however, so she quickly pulled her hand away. He stared for a moment, the reached up tucking some of her hair behind her ear. He then took a lock bringing it close to his lips, taking in her scent.

"You're an odd one, aren't you?" Mayu perked up.

"Assign you to one job, and you do that and then some." He muttered. Mayu glanced to the side.

"No one else will step up." She simply answered.

"They fear to." She looked at him confused.

"You do know I could punish you for doing what you've been, right?" Her breath hitched. He then let out a soft huff.

"Your words are false, you do still fear me." He muttered before letting her hair go and placing a gentle hand on her cheek. He traced her cheekbone with his thumb gently.

"You expect me to no take your words seriously?" She asked softly.

"You should know your lord better than this." He corrected. She sighed softly closing her eyes.

"I know you well, Sesshomaru. But I know that you don't like people stepping on your toes either." She muttered.

"I don't like people assuming things of me, then claiming themselves to be higher up than me." He corrected yet again. Mayu opened her eyes gazing into his golden eyes, their forms only lit by a candle. She had hoped that he couldn't tell how red her face was thanks to the darkness, but knowing him, he knew full well.

"You yourself remind me of your place." She tilted her head. How could he forget?

"Then again, I suppose I might as well giving you a more suitable ranking." He whispered.

"You don't need to." Mayu muttered.

"You're a smart girl, you've helped me thus far. I see it fit." He muttered before his hand hooked behind her neck just a tad bit pulling her closer, their lips only half an inch apart.

"S-Sesshomaru?" She asked softly. Then, she tensed. His eyes were closed, his lips on hers. His hand traces down her neck, shoulder, to her lower back pulling her closer, their chests touching. He then started massaging her lower back, Mayu couldn't help but relax and finally close her eyes. She meekly returned the kiss, the best she could, she was never kissed before after all. Sesshomaru pulled back but only a little. Mayu opened her eyes as he did, only for them to have a glimmer of confusion when his hand suddenly shot away from her, and he backed up further.

"Sessho-" He then got up making Mayu move back again, got out, and quickly dried off getting dressed once again.

"We will not speak of this." He said before walking out. Mayu sat there staring at the door for some time before she slowly sat down normally covering her mouth. She'd be lying if she said she wasn't nearly in tears.

'What happened? Was I not supposed to kiss back??' She thought before pulling her knees to her chest.

'I should have just walked out and left him alone.'
