Clarke's POV

I'm in Lexa's room right now. Luna and Lexa were going back and forth on Lexa's practice pad. Their drumsticks hit the pad at overwhelming speeds as they keep eye contact and keep straight faces.

It's been an hour.

Of tapping.

Nonstop.

Tapping.

"That's it!" I say putting my book down. "Let's go volunteer at the hospital! Lexa you can go tap away with that little boy you gave drumsticks to!" I say taking Lexa's hand and dragging her away from the practice pad.

Luna laughs at her and keeps tapping.

"No no!" I say grabbing Luna's drum sticks. "You are coming too!" I say and Lexa laughs at her.

I pick up my phone and text Raven.

Clarke🦝- THE TAPPING IM DONE! IM DONE WITH THE TAPPING!

Raven😉- well you aren't giving them to me! I listened to the tapping all day yesterday.

Clarke🦝- we are going to volunteer at the hospital and you are coming!

Raven😉- Y do I have to come. It's your day to watch them!

Clarke🦝- because I took away Luna's drum sticks and she isn't getting them back until you come and pick them up!

Raven😉- fine I'll be there. Only cause I love my girlfriend. Not her drumsticks.

I laugh and look at Luna and Lexa who are staring at me. Well not me. The drumsticks I have in my hand.

"Baby we could stop... just give us back the sticks." Lexa says.

"No! You get them back at the end of the day! Got it!" I say and they both reply with a sad 'Yes Ma'am'.

Lexa and Luna get in Lexa's car with me and Lexa starts driving to the hospital.

(A/n: fun fact. Once I was in my teachers class room and was practicing on my practice pad and he said with out looking up from his computer "~insert my name~ I will kill you" and then went back to work)

Once we get there we walk in and fill out volunteer forms. The nurse that we met with the boy Lexa gave drum sticks to walks over to us. Lexa smiles at her.

"Hello ma'am just coming to see that kid." Lexa says with her hands in her pockets.

"Oh... you are Lexa right! The drummer that gave him the drum sticks!" Her eyes sad.

"Mhm." Lexa says scratching the back of her neck

"He just went in for surgery... he isn't feeling well!" She says and Lexa's eyes go sad.

"Oh... um..." before Lexa could say more a man and a woman walk over and stop when they see her.

"You are the drummer my son Hayden talks about!" The woman says and then hugs Lexa. Lexa is caught off guard and has her hands up in the air. The woman cries on Lexa.

"Yes ma'am I am I- what happened to Hayden?" Lexa asks and the woman let's go of her.

"He had a seizure and they took him in." The father said.

"Oh please could you wait with us! It would mean a lot for you to be there when he wakes up!" The mom asks desperately.

"Honey we can't ask her to do that..." the husband says but Lexa stops them.

"No I'll wait." Lexa says and the mother leads them over to the waiting room.

"You two can get some work done." The nurse says smiling at us.

***

After about two hours of working for the hospital Luna and I walk over to Lexa who is sitting alone because the mother and father have fallen asleep.

I go and sit next to Lexa. She is in deep thought. I put my hand in her hand and lay my head on her shoulder.

"You are a good person Lexa." I whisper and I feel her kiss my head.

The doctor walks over to us and Lexa pats the mothers shoulder. She wakes up with a startle and the dad wakes up too.

All three stand up and the doctor looks at them.

"He is awake... but not for long." The doctor starts going into detail about him only having 30 minutes.

Lexa looks at me and I take her hand as the doctor leads us to his room. The mother and father go in first. We are outside the door and can hear what's happening.

"Mommy... what's going to happen to me." He whispers and I can see Lexa's heart drop in her eyes.

"You are going to feel no more pain baby... no more pain." The mother says and I can hear the tears in her eyes.

"I'm going to die..." the voice of the little boy says. His voice is filled with sorrow.

"It's okay buddy. You are so strong my boy." The father says trying to stay strong.

"I- I am ready. I have been ready mommy. Be strong." The boy says. You can hear in his voice. He isn't ready. He doesn't want to go.

The mom lets out a cry.

"Baby you are so strong. So strong. Someone is here for you." The mom says. "Lexa come in." I hear the mother say and Lexa slowly walks in the door. I walk in after her. The boys eyes glow.

"Lexa! From the grounders marching drumline!" He says with a huge smile. "I have watched all your performances! I love your drum line! I- I wanted to be in it."

"Don't worry buddy. You already are. The drumline loves you. We support you." She says and puts her hand on the boys arm.

"Will they go to my funeral." Those words make my heart drop. The mother and father start crying.

"I- yes. They will be there." Lexa says. Luna stops by the door way.

"No way!" The boy says. "I have two drumline members in my room!" He says with a smile. He looks back at Lexa. "Thank you... thank you for the drum sticks. Thank you for giving me hope."

"Of course." Lexa says. I hear her swallow her tears. "Thank you... thank you for being strong." Lexa says and he's smile gets softer as his eyes start drifting to sleep. Lexa backs away and the mother holds onto her boy.

His heart rate starts slowing. I am standing there in shock. Lexa walks up to me and takes my head in her hands. The heart monitor starts beeping as his mothers cries fill the room.

"No baby! Don't leave me!" She cry's trying to hold onto her boy as the doctors run into the room. "Don't leave me!"

The father lets out cry's of sorrow as he puts the pair of drum sticks Lexa gave him down in the boys hands.

I bury my head in Lexa's chest and wait for it to be over.

Don't yell at me.
